tier0.dll causing game to crash in competitive
I'm having major issues with the game since about a year ago - I am unable to play cs:go competitive as the game will crash to desktop almost every single time during the map load. It is extremely rare that it will actually let me into the match. Other game modes work fine.
I also have the same issue with l4d2 so it seems to be related to the source engine.
I raised a ticket with support last year when the issue originally happened but they refused to help, essentially telling me to troubleshoot it myself. Nice.

Below is the event log entry:

Faulting application name: csgo.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x6169cb85

I attempted the following to fix the issue:
- remove tier0.dll and verify integrity of game files to re-download it
- update video drivers (amd gpu)
- downgrade video drivers
- reinstall windows

I suspect that the issue is related to something that tier0.dll interacts with, but since I'm not a game dev I struggle to think of ways to pinpoint what it may be. I don't believe that tier0.dll is corrupt as I acquired a new file already and it did not resolve the issue.

Having searched online it seems to be a very rare issue, but I found two threads, one for cs:go and one for titanfall, both games obviously run on source engine. The cs:go thread ended up being someone running a 32bit system and over 4gb of memory, which is not going to be the cause on my system which is 64bit. The titanfall devs weren't able to fix the issue, simply commenting that it is rare and something to do with the way source works.

I know it's a long shot, but if anyone has any ideas or has had the issue and found a fix, please let me know. I would like to play cs:go again some day and don't fancy buying a new PC to do it.

Thanks!

Bump - I have a very similar issue but haven't had any luck when trying to find a fix.

My issue got fixed eventually after another windows reinstall. That's two separate full wipes of the hard drive and fresh windows 10 installations now. Not too sure what was different this time.

The safest way to repair missing or corrupted tier0.dll file caused by your Windows operating system, is to run the built-in System File Checker, which replaces missing or corrupted system files.

To do this, right-click the Start button on your Windows 10 computer to open the WinX menu and click the Command Prompt (Admin) link.

In the CMD window, copy the following command and press Enter :

sfc /scannow

The scan may take 10 minutes, and if it is successfully completed, you must restart your PC. Running sfc /scannow in safe mode or at startup can give better results.

Have you ruled out anti virus software? Check it's logs.

Thanks for your replies guys - in my case SFC and AV weren't the cause. But good suggestions for others with this problem.
