The "You are not allowed to open this case in your country" problem.

If you live in the Netherlands or Belgium and you might have had a case drop after you finished your game you might have noticed that you can't buy a key to open the case. Well because of the Law in the Netherlands and i think in belgium as well we can't open "lootboxes" because it's part of gambling which (for the last part) i completely agree with. However whenever you turn 18 it is allowed to buy a lottery ticket from a store and we can go and spend our money in gambling games in the casino which also have pretty low chances of winning.

And of course, i can hear the arguments already come, like anyone can pretend to be 18 years old on the internet. Well yes, but there is already a pretty common solution for that.

Let's say i want to invest in the bitcoin. I'll make an account on a websites which buys and sells them and i have to verify my age. The way it is verified, is by sending the front and back of your passport/identification card so that they really know that you really have something in possesion that says you really are 18.

Now i would understand that not everybody would be willing to show their ID to (in this case) to VALVE just to be able to open cases. But i would, in fact, i already tried doing it while emailing steam support. The answer i got back was that he would propose the idea to the team, but that i also could start a discussion at the steam discussions. (which i didn't know existed).

And that's why i hope there are some of you who want to discuss this problem, because i hear more and more people about it who think this really sucks.

Also, there's this weird thing that we can buy an operation pass and get skins from collections, but if we spend the stars on buying the operation case we again can't open the case. But we can still gamble our money into the collections.

Anyway i really would like to hear opions from other people about this because i think this could be a really good solution to the "You are not allowed to open this case in your country" problem.

i do say it's impressive that governments are actually banning loot boxes aka gambling from video games, CS GO does have an Pegi rating of 18, but that doesn't stop kids from playing the game, some kind of verification could work. (about that, i had to verify my age for youtube, they asked for a debit/credit card or passport/id i used my debit card to verify my age, it worked, but i'm not 18. :P)

I don't care if there is a system that blocks opening cases.
but I can't purchase capsules anymore either ingame that is weird to me.

anyway I think it would just be a lot of administration and cost for a relative small amount of adults in those countries.
if more countries do the same thing we might get a better solution.

the pegi rating is only for consoles tho :P

Regardless of whether or not opening cases has any real benefit, I think it sucks that you'd have to go through all this trouble for it anyway.

Well and there's the thing, that's probably not going to happen. Because in over 3 years only The Netherlands and Belgium have this problem. And yes we are not a big part of the whole cs go community, but if we try to use a vpn we can get banned. That's why it's a problem.

Yeah, i really hope VALVE wil do something to solve it, because i really would spend money on opening cases i get from drops.

and france also has a law but that can be bypassed by the xray thingy.

I forgot to mention this, but it would already solve a lot if only we could open the cases that were dropped after the match, i mean. Right now the case drops we get are pretty much useless. Better drop me some dope grafitti or skin

I know i can sell them, but most of the time the case is wort like 10 cents. And i really have to wait like a week before it even gets on the market...

Selling the case doesn't get rid of the problem at hand, I mean if you sell the cases then you have 0% chance of unboxing something good, but if the issue was fixed then at least OP could do what he wants with those boxes and possibly earn something out of it

sell enough cases and you can just buy something good.
