People not redeeming service medal

I have seen plenty of people not redeeming the service medal right away after they get a new one. Is there a reason why they hold and don't redeem it?

So when u reach level 40 u get a green bar above your rank and name in cs go right saying 'Get service Medal' and when u click it cs gives u a service medal(my meaning of redeeming hehe) but most people seem to not click the green bar to get service medal and just hold it. My question is why?

They may be waiting for the year to end, so they'll get the Service Medal of the upcoming year right-away.

Other than that, there's no reason whatsoever.

So if they claim it before the year ends, it wont reset right away and you wont be gaining new XP?

What won't reset?
By claiming the Service Medal, your level 40 will change to level 1, and you'll receive the Service Medal of the current year.

If you do keep level 40 and be playing without claiming the Service Medal, the gained XP will probably be lost along the way, as level 40 is the maximum level, isn't it?
I, personally, haven't tried it myself - I've always traded my XP for the Service Medal the moment it was available without any hesitation whatsoever.

Your level will remain 40 only but the xp bar will finish up like it doesnt have a limit , but the number will be 40 only.

Meaning, that once you trade the 40th level for Service Medal, you'll be starting with level 1, regardless of how many XP you've obtained, while you were at 40th level, right?
