Disable shadows
Is it possible to disable shadows ?

Based of what I've heard "disabling shadows might get you banned from the game" or something like that ?

Why would you want to do that? Just curious - I'm sure it's possible, just asking why.

I Guess better visibility and fps improvement are his reasons

I honestly cant see the point of the existence of shadows (of objects) and reflections

I remember older cs had a cvar r_shadows 0 for that

I mean, if I'm going to be honest, if your PC in 2020 can't handle some basic shadows in an 8 year old game you should probably be working a job instead of playing CS:GO to upgrade that dinosaur of a machine.

I mean if im going to be honest,if you think everyone is able to buy a pc specially in 2020 when ppl cant even get much money becuase of corona (or cant even work yet) then you are wrong

The Game is competitively focused, its completly pointless to have useless details such as objects shadows and reflections

You'd lose a pretty good advantage in some areas of the maps. with shadows enabled, you can often see someone is coming even if they're shift walking. for example if you're camping inside A long Doors on de_dust2 you'll see people about to sneak in. or if people are on the ledge of catwalk, you'll see when they're about to drop to CT. People sneak walking to A ramp on mirage, etc.

Shadows are extremely useful though. I've lost track at how many cheater accusations I've seen and had directed at me all because shadows gave their position away. Just yesterday I saw someones shadow as they moved to cover. I then shot through that cover and killed them in 2 bullets. If Shadows are useless and disabled I never would have known they were there.

The idea that finding work during Covid is fundamentally flawed; especially with eCommerce and online skills such as software engineering, etc. I currently live in the United States where it's the worst and trust me, finding work is still just as easy as it was before Covid unless you're in a career path that requires a certain on-site skill set.

Also - even ancient systems that would cost only about $250-$500 to build would run CS:GO perfectly fine with close to maximum graphics at 60 FPS.

As well as the fact that shadows give player locations away in certain positions and allow for easier prefiring and other advantages as a Counter-Terrorist. Even though CS:GO has a pro scene it is still most definitely a casual game, most people don't play professionally and most people barely play competitively (see skill distribution for reference).

"As well as the fact that shadows give player locations away in certain positions"

The shadows of the objects (buildings, trash cans...) doesnt do that ,i clearly stated it before "shadows (of objects)"

"I currently live in the United States where it's the worst and trust me"

Not the best example,us isnt a poor country, but i rly doubt everyone there is able to work or get as much money as before

"especially with eCommerce and online skills such as software engineering"

Not everyone has those skills,irrelvant

"even ancient systems that would cost only about $250-$500 to build would run CS:GO perfectly fine with close to maximum graphics at 60 FPS"

Thats 50% (or more in some cases) of the money a medium class person gets where i leave ,consider also ppl have to pay taxes and food (whose price have increased after the pandemic has begun),in america you get more money than the average person on east europe

"it is still most definitely a casual game"

Csgo can be everything except a casual game,if this Game was casual, ppl d not take it THAT seriously

"most people don't play professionally and most people barely play competitively"

Not true at all, most of the ppl play here for the win,not for having fun like in casual games...

"finding work is still just as easy as it was"

Well, where i live it isnt and i rly doubt where i live isnt the only place

A world without shadows looks really weird though.

And how is that relevant in a competitive Game

Because the world created in CS:GO would look equally odd without shadows considering the Source Engine is, you know, attempting to recreate a real environment.

It wouldn't even look slightly realistic if you removed the shadows, go in game, turn sv_cheats 1 on and use the command to disable shadows, it's *really* weird.

Irrelevant

"you know, attempting to recreate a real environment."

Other valve games also did that, but had a cvar to disable it so...

Work hard for money just to buy a new PC ?
Nah fam I'm not that type...
Thanks anyway for paying attention to this discussion I guess.

Correct, without sv_cheats enabled (only available on private LAN servers) or external software that will cause a potential VAC ban, you cannot disable shadows.

Unintentionally allowed for it, and it disabled certain shadows whilst still keeping it realistic; it will not disable ALL shadows within the game as it'd make it absolute horrendous to look at, as well as cause many optical illusions leading to many, many problems.

"it absolute horrendous to look at"

Its just no shadows, you d see a slightly brighter color (unless you have a HDR monitor) in a place where a shadow is,how that is supposed to be "horrendous",doesnt make sense
Also its just pure esthetic, completly irrelevant
However a cvar to enable shadows could be put for those Who rly care about the irrelvant shadows (objects shadows)

"as well as cause many optical illusions leading to many, many problems"

This doesnt make sense at all lol

Please Google images of the environment without shadows (the appearance of objects without shadows). Whether it's in-game or not it will definitely mess with most people's eyes and look especially out of place. If you don't believe me then load up CS:S or CS 1.6 and disable shadows; it doesn't disable all of them for the reason(s) provided.

I played css all my Life without shadows ,my eyes were never messed up and the Game looks pretty good and i know lot of ppl that disabled shadows
And even nowadays (in css at least, idk about cs1.6) there are ppl that still disable shadows

"it will definitely mess with most people's eyes"

Still doesnt make sense, bring proof, explain how it does mess ppl eyes

Also rly doubt adding a cvar to enable/disable shadows d cause problems

Also if It messes "most" ppl eyes why lot of ppl use Nvidia filters to make the shadowed places brighter (like if there was no shadows) then?

Edit:i forgot that you cant use Nvidia filtrrs anymore becuase of trusted mode((
