What server company does Valve use for their games?
I heard somewhere Activision hosts them.

Valve maintains their own servers, other companies that have games on steam also have their own servers or they can purchase server space from valve (otherwise they're peer to peer)

yes, if you can see in the store (steam) theres a part called "steam cloud" if this is seen it means the publisher is using steam server thus add a little bit of money for the publishers

because the monthly pay is cheap, it is fast (not to mention the client itself is steam), and it is avalable on all the region of the world.
