Why is rank decay a thing?
I haven't played for a good while, and when getting back into it recently, I am continuously getting stomped. Now, i am not a good player, and have been out of it for a long time that silver 2 is honestly pretty decent for me to get back into the swing of things.

The issue is that silver 2's and 3's are playing like people around my LEM rank before the rank change a few years back. I honestly thought it was a lot of smurfs, but then someone told me about rank decay.

Why is this a feature? The game is basically creating smurfs if good players don't play for a while.

So without rank decay someone who stops playing for like a year should Be ruining high rank matches?
Rank decay IS a good thing

And The rank change few years ago was just artificially lowering peoples ranks because basicly everyone was in high ranks.

That is a case of it being good, but the issue is that it's too quick to decay.

If someone doesn't play a competitive match for a few weeks, it will drop. There have been people on reddit that say after two weeks of not doing a comp match (not, not playing csgo, but not doing a comp match), they dropped from mg2 to gold nova 2.

The other issue is that people that dive into the community servers for longer before going into proper mm. People that like to play on faceit will lose their rank even though they are still playing the competitive style maps.

So, sure, I relent that it is a good thing if someone doesn't play for a year, but decaying multiple ranks after only 2 odd weeks? That's a bit much.

.

It's a month and your rank Will Be hidden. And then IT starts slowly decaying until you play a Comp and IT Will show again

it takes years of not playing for a good player to derank all the way to silver, by then the "good" player no longer that good and who tf want to wait like 3 years just for that nonsense?

I'm not sure where you found the thread about someone going from mg2 to nova2 from two weeks of decay, that's literally impossible nowadays unless they queued with a cheater for multiple games and that cheater got banned, and that won't be because of decay then. As support, I have not played any MM in 19 days and am still mg1.

Decay is what keeps the rank system working. CSGO ranks are based on a bell-curve, so if everyone who got to high ranks decided to stop playing then high ranks would be not only even harder to reach, but also polluted with players who are unpracticed and may not belong there anymore. You see this in overwatch a lot because decay is basically non-existent in that game.

I'm a bad mg1 player and I often get former dmg+ players in my games, and they don't always perform better than me. So it seems rank decay has put them maybe a little low, but not by an extreme amount.

I do think decay should stop at a certain point, like only a few ranks below your peak, so we don't get former eagle ranks in silver, but hey valve will do what valve does. Then again my friend was LEM in 2015 but now plays worse than some of my nova friends, so there's that too.

I've never experienced rank decay but that's because I've been in silver 1 for the past 3 months, its too hard for me

"After 30 days, your account will no longer have it’s rank. You’ll not be able to play with players above MG1, unless you’re in a 5 man queue. If you are not playing for an even longer time period, your rank slowly starts to lower."

Rank decay is actually a good thing and there is no such thing as getting deranked from mg2 to gold nova 2 in just a couple of weeks. It IS possible but takes months.

Rank decay keeps the community active and prevents people from destroying the games of active players like mentioned above.

And dont tell me your silver 3 enemies are all decayed LEM-Global Players. Although its possible it would take months for them to get there and even if in one of like 100 games there is such a guy, atleast its no cheater and he is beatable.

Of course the game has it problems but those are just excuses for losing games.

More than months probably. I guess it depends on how certain the game of your rank is, so the more time you've been in a rank and the more comp matches you have completed, the slower your rank will decay.

When I once didn't play comp for 6 month, I only went down from LE to DMG. So it's highly unlikely that a LE-Global player would decay to silver ranks, I think.

That is totally not true at all. No way is an account with global elite rank who lets their rank be hidden due to inactivity now lead to them no longer being to play with above MG1 rank unless they're in a 5 man team.

I am very sure this is true since we had the exact same problem with one of my friends.
