why does the m249 exist

used to be a cheaper alternative to the negev back when it was more expensive than the m249 but the negev got a price reduction and a rework so the m249 is meant to fill in the role of the old negev which was a crazy expensive meme wepaon you bought to bm the enemy team when you had lots of money.

The advantages of M249 over Negev respectively are:
-Higher armor penetration (80% vs 71%)
-Better accurate range (16m vs 13m)
-Running speed (195 units/sec vs 150 units/sec)

But there are some disadvantages as well:
-Slower rate of fire (750rpm vs. 800rpm)
-Lower damage (32 vs 35)
-Less ammo (100 vs 150)

And they are par on the following specs:
-Reload speed(5.7 sec)

From my experience, the Negev is almost unparalled at long-range combat due to it's laser like spray pattern. However, the M249 is more versatile and can perform marginally better at close quarters or mid-range.
