A Proposal For A New Knife: The Commando Knife
Hey there peeps.

First, I am not associated with/against with M-Tech USA, Smith & Wesson, United Cutlery, William Rodgers, the Egginton Group, Sheffield Collectable Knives, eBay or Amazon whatsoever, and if I’m mentioning their names below, it’s solely for informative purposes.

Now, this’s been in my mind since early 2018, when I bought CS:GO on my old account.

I came up with a nice idea for a new knife, and decided to add some bullet points with interesting/helpful/cool facts, plus, some extras (videos and links) for you all to check if interested, and why I feel we need it. Also, this would serve as a means to, somehow, appeal peeps at Valve to take into account my proposal of this knife for a future Operation/Case (highly unlikely to happen, but always worth the shot).

Now, we all know most of the knives out there look generic (read as, cheap-looking tactical-esque), nothing a special forces/terrorist organization member would carry, even on real life, unless very short of money, which is not really an excuse.

Some out there are good-looking and look robust, but they feel cheap once you dig in a little into them, like the M9 Bayonet, which is inspired on the Smith & Wesson SW3B knife, with more-or-less average reviews, the Karambit, based on the United Cutlery Honshu Karambit, again, with meh reviews, and dirt cheap, or the Huntsman Knife which is based on the M-Tech USA Xtreme MX-8054, with, again, just okay-performance reviews.

What I mean with the above, is that we need realistic, even top-notch, working knives someone in special operations would carry to the field, and not just your cheap average tacticool-ish-looking knife you’d get on eBay or Amazon.

So, I felt there’s a need for us all (both C-Ts and Ts) for a silent, classic-yet-modern-looking, eye-pleasing, solid-looking, truly tactical, working knife, and the image that automatically popped into my mind was the Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife, or, as I’d call it in-game, if it was to exist, the Commando Knife (it’s even one of its real-life names).

Some interesting information about it, below.

  • The Fairbairn-Sykes knife was designed by two Englishmen, legends in the combatives/self-defense world.

First, William E. Fairbairn, who was the founder of the first SWAT-like group, trained the British Commandos and the OSS (precursor of the CIA) during WW2, and survived 600 to-death knife fights/gunfights.

Second, Eric A. Sykes, who was a sniper during WW1 on the Western Front, head of the sniper unit at the Shanghai Municipal Police in the 1920s (Shanghai was the most dangerous city of the world at that time), capable of shooting a pistol accurately at a man’s head at 100 yards, and also well-versed in close combat.

  • The Fairbairn-Sykes knife is currently issued to the special forces groups/militaries below.

    • British Special Air Service (SAS).

    • British Royal Marines.

    • British Special Boat Service (SBS).

    • British Army.

    • French Commandos Marine.

    • Polish 1 Samodzielna Kompania Commando (6 Troop No. 10 Commando).

    • Belgian Special Operations Regiment (formerly known as the Paracommando Brigade).

    • Canadian Armed Forces.

    • Cambodian 911 Special Forces Regiment.

    • Indonesian Kopassus.

    • Malaysian Group Gerak Khas (GGK).

    • Malaysian Pasukan Khas TUDM.

    • Singapore Armed Forces Commando Formation.

The knife was also used, in one form or another, during WW2, by the British Commandos, the Parachute Regiment, the Special Air Service (SAS), the OSS, the USMC Marine Raiders, the First Special Service Force (known as the Devil’s Brigade, a joint U.S./Canada force), the U.S. Army Rangers, and the Polish 1 Samodzielna Brygada Spadochronowa (1st Polish Independent Parachute Brigade Group).

  • The Fairbairn-Sykes knife, virtually unchanged from its introduction in 1941, is still produced by William Rodgers (a manufacturer which made them up to this day since 1943, and which now forms part of the Egginton Group, a conglomerate of knifemakers from all England), and is currently issued to the SAS, the SBS, the Royal Marines, and the British Army in general.

This version (which anyone can buy on the Egginton Group’s website), has zero markings (only if supplied to the British Army, but I don't think there would be a reason against this if any other military force made an authorized purchase), making it a “sterilized” weapon. It’s made from heat-tempered high-carbon steel, with a non-reflective matte black oxide finish (blades look somewhat lighter in color than the handles due to their chemical treatment).

This version of the Fairbairn-Sykes knife is the only one supplied under government contract in the world to the British Ministry of Defense (MoD), and has a NATO listing number. All of these knives come with a letter of authenticity (yes, even those you can buy from the Egginton Group’s website).

I honestly believe, if we were to get the Commando Knife, it should loosely-based, if not exactly replicated, after this version, since having no markings on it, eliminates any chances of toying up with weird names for the markings/logos, as seen on certain knives, like the Karambit, and avoids legal/copyright issues.

Also, we’d get a knife that is currently issued to real special operations members, like those from the SAS (which, obviously, are in-game).

  • The Fairbairn-Sykes knife was designed as a highly-effective, well-balanced fighting knife, which happened to be also perfect for silent elimination. Early variations of it had knurled slim-vase-shaped handles for perfect grip and balance, and a needle-tip-sharp blade with an etched ricasso (known as the first pattern).

Second pattern knives had a different blade, but remained perfect for thrusting/slashing, and retained the first pattern handle.

Third pattern knives, the ones we also see today, had an improved, more robust-yet-sleek slim-vase-shaped ribbed handle for even a better grip, and retained the blade shape.

The only differences between those knives with those from the Egginton Group (and most we see today), are that the latter got a tiny flat triangle-shaped section at the base of the blade, for ease of manufacture, and a flat and wide cylindrical pommel nut.

Overall, if the design remained almost the same for almost 80 years, it’s because it’s a working, effective-at-its-job, solid knife, which has been only improved with better materials to meet today’s standards.

Below, some links to some useful information.

So, what do you think? Would you like to see the Commando Knife in-game? Leave your comments below, and let’s all hope for Valve to make it real.

Have a great day, and God bless.

TL;DR: Would you like to see the Egginton Group's Commando Knife in-game? Please, check the fourth link for details and a picture of it.

Knife models not coming from workshop they are all made by Valve. Only weapon skins could make into the game. Models and skins are different. Our hero here is just loves the look of an IRL knife and hopes it gets some attention and Valve would think about making and adding into the game.

Hey again Wasendak, thanks for the comment.

Indeed, while I do love the looks of the Commando Knife, I also think it's just an staple Knife in many Special Forces worldwide that I'm kinda surprised it's not yet into the game. The knife, while it'd perfectly match with suppressed weapons (most of them in C-T side), like the M4A1-S, USP-S and MP5-SD (this one available for T side), it can also match with about any weapon, since it can be purchased (or even pilfered from dead C-Ts if you're into that kind of trophies). Ts looking for a nice, small, stealthy-and-classic-looking knife should consider it. I think that's why it should be in-game.

Greetings.

Hey Cheez, thanks for replying.

Yeah, I'd be hyped quite a lot if I knew this concept would ever make it in-game. I think this is a staple knife for C-Ts, specially for those who go Sneaky-Beaky-Like.

Cheers.

Hey _mrWhite_, thanks for replying.

From what I could understand, it seems you lost all the items in your inventory, so my advice would be to contact Steam support.

It's been three weeks since I last checked this thread, and I still would love the see the Commando Knife in-game? Would you like to see it as well? Tell us in the comments, and thanks all for reading.

Hey all again.

It's been 2 weeks since I last posted here, and since there wasn't any new Weapons' Crate which contained new Knives, I still have hopes for the Commando Knife to be released. As I mentioned before, it'd be a nice little dagger to pair up with suppressed weapons, or any weapon in general, and still look cool, even with Terrorists.

Would you like to see the Commando Knife in-game later at some point? Reply down below, and again, thanks all for reading.

Hey all.

Added a TL;DR to the thread, and will most likely update the thread itself on mid-January (beginning of my college year's end break). Just wanted to tell you that.

Have a great day.

Hey Valerie, thanks for replying.

Also, thanks a lot for your kind words. I really want to keep up my threads updated with something new, and despite college work is heavy, I always try to find a way to do it.
