[ESSAY] An honest-to-god newbies perspective of CS:GO
I'm going to be honest: I really, really, REALLY want to like this game. Playing CS:GO has always been on my mind over the past years, but recently I finally picked it up and it was, well, disappointing. When I started, I was of course enthralled by the same rush every other gamer has. But it quickly wore off after the first hour, and I already wasn't enjoying playing. "Maybe," I thought, "I'll come back later and i'll suddenly play great and have an amazing time". So, I did just that. I'd play the game for a few hours, get bored, stop, then come back to play few hours after the next couple of days. Yet I was still left with this sense of disappointment. And I don't think I'll be coming back for a while, if ever.

With that being said, here's a honest to god beginners perspective of the game.

- Casual playlists. These are by far the most fun part of the game: no pressure, and you can goof off and improve your skills. I found that the best and most fun place to play and improve is deathmatch. However, I'm still frustrated with how valve seems to match people of skill together. Even in casual, im seeing people with way more higher ranks, ranks that I dont even know, playing against me, and they are clearly better. I get cheating is an issue for lower ranked people, but if valve could match me with other people of a similar rank (I'm currently level 3), it would make the experience fairer and more enjoyable.

- Comp: This is where I had the least fun. First off, everything was so long. Honestly, 45 minute games are not something I have time for as well as something that just gets boring quickly. Secondly, I suck hard. Having no experience in the shooting genre, I struggled hard. Again, same with comp, I felt like I was constantly playing against people that were way better than me. I'd average 5 kills throughout the games, seriously. Finally, getting a rank. Again, I REALLY SUCK, so I have only won 1 out of 6 games... and you need to win 10 games to get your rank. It honestly could have taken me 50 games to get my rank. Maybe instead of basing it off wins, base it off the # of wins and the skill of players in your 10 games played, and base it off that. Winning 10 games seems so impossible for me.

- Community: This community is toxic. Smurfing and hacking are pretty big problems that I've had run ins with, and it degrades a newbies experience greatly. I get people yelling at me in chat for sucking, people telling me I shouldn't play comp because I'm so bad. You get the point, it pisses me off alot.

- Mechanics: This game is extremely wierd and clunky to me. Like I said, this could come from having no experience in the genre. Still, the spray and bloom on the gun screws me up hard. Nothing is natural to me at all. This, combined with moving, makes it extremely hard to remotely get a handle of shooting. I've tried watching tutorials and pro games to see what movements are correct, yet I cant get it down. It feels like this giant wall I wont be able to climb.

Side Note: I didn't take about crates because I havn't really cared about them at all.

All in all, CS:GO has been more an experience of disappointment and its expectations far outweighed the reality of the game for me. I came in expecting this awesome experience I hear everyone talking about, but I left with the opposite: Frustration and disappointment.

Please take this with a grain of salt though. This game wasn't for me, but it might be for you.

Thanks for coming to my TED Talk

Stick to the games you enjoy

No need to force yourself to play a game you hate.

There are plenty of games to play - (infinite if you include emulation which has net play in some cases)

*every game community is toxic trust me you think league is any better or overwatch?

Good review, i personally say that if you want to focus in this game and having good time, get rid of toxic players and do not leaen from them. Their ELO, trust factor are going to be low forever.
Invest your time to learn from your mistakes and play your own gamestyle, take the best way to set a personal config and csgo will give results back.

If you're a new player and you need answers or tips i will add you to help, I think you are nice.

Thanks for offering, but Im going to respectfully say no. I dont think any amount of getting better is going to make this more enjoyable for me, CS:GO just isn't the game for me :steamsad:

EDIT: Actually, I'll reconsider. If I ever feel like coming back to the game, I'll consider your offer. But at the moment, i'll decline.

the point of comp is that its supposed to be long. Also it is not the game's fault you suck

wau you spend more time whining about the game than actually playing it .
cs:go is not the game you pick up and destroy everyone after 2 hours of playing .
it takes a long time and dedication to get good at it .

Im aware I suck at this. The point of this isn't to hate on the game, I'm just providing a perspective I don't see a lot of.

This game is for competition and skill.

You just can't jump in into a game like CSGO and expect to have fun without even learning basics, which for a complete noob would take probably at least a hundred hours if not more. But for sure not 1 day. This is now an E-Sport. And like every sport - work produces results.

I have done the same with DOTA 2, thinking this is just a reskin of League of Legends, after getting my but whooped and flammed on by teammates for fkng up their game, I never touched it again.

CSGO is attractive to a lot of people, because its nostalgic and its been here for years, its like a gaming home away from home, especially Dust 2.

The only way to enjoy CSGO is to be good at it, to get good at it you must put in work. If that doesnt sound attractive, try this new ♥♥♥♥ everyone says is like csgo Valorant or something, or go for more casual titles like BFV or COD. You will enjoy them without learning them properly I assume.
