Why have knife prices gone up so much?
It's not like there are less of them in existence, if anything the amount of cs:go knives that exist has increased over time so if there's even more of them, why are they rising in price instead of dropping? When I had a Butterfly knife blue steel it was only worth like £90, why is it over £300 now?

well, theoretically if that's the case, then that means even more people are opening cases than ever

exactly

the bigger the playerbase gets, more and more cases getting unboxed, and logical more and more knifes getting unboxed, and more and more getting bought over time from the market

In your specific case the butterfuly knife is limited to very few cases and is a very popular knife aswell. So it just naturally increases in price over time. As for the general topic, as others have said, its a matter of supply and demand as well as the huge influx of chinese players/collectors that flooded CSGO within the last year. And obviously Valve has banned multiple millions of dollars in high tier skins/knives over the past years aswell which technically means knives aren't automatically becoming easier to access.

I remember being in high school and pulling a safari gut knife that was like 50usd max, now the cheapest knife on the market is 120usd, has it always been trending up ?

Sadly yes. At some point I'll get my inventory of items I liked, back. I parted with a lot of them for I guess, way little money. A vanilla butterfly was like 75 for me at the time I sold it for less than 400.

I think there just needs to be more variation / more knives in general added, and the prices of all knives will roughly equalize except for rare patterns and phases.

Price manipulation, so many kids think this game is a 2nd stock market.

If you want a knife first you need a case. Some time ago many cases where 0.03 cents. Now its way more. Specially the cases with the good knifes. So…
