Inconsistent Ping on CSGO - despite direct connection and good speed test
Hi all,

Hoping someone can help me out or point me in the right direction as I'm going crazy. I recently started playing CS:GO again but I am struggling to get consistent ping in games.

About 2 years ago I was playing CS:GO with no issues on this computer while I was on Windows 8. I've recently updated to Windows 10 and I think that could be the cause of the issue.

My brother, who is also direct connected to the same router, can play in the same servers but with low and consistent ping.

I'm thinking there is something wrong with my OS or CSGO.

I have tried all of the below:

- Uninstalling and reinstalling CSGO (when I reinstalled it still kept all my config)
- Updating ethernet drivers
- Updating gpu drivers
- Disabling windows 10 p2p updates
- Disabling windows 10 cortana

I get consistently good speed tests.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Try setting your max ping setting to a low number. I find that if I do that I wait longer, but find servers that are closer to me.

Hey,

Benchmark results here -> https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/25849328

Not amazing, the computer is 7 years old.

I'm starting to think it's an issue with my game install. I will hop into a couple of games of deathmatch and have consistently low ping (5-15). If I close the game and reopen it, I won't get any ping less than 100. The only fix that is working is closing the game and going -> verify integrity of game files.

Then it seems to start working again (until I close it).

Any suggestions?

Can those results lead to inconsistent ping?

I can go through some games getting some low ping and then it just sky rockets when i try to connect to other games.

Update:

Overwatch runs with consistently low ping.

CSGO will 50/50 give me good ping around 15 or poor ping around 150. It's like a gamble on what sort of ping I get. If I get into a server and have 15 ping, it'll stay at 15 ping and it won't spike. If I get into a game at 150 ping, it'll consistently sit around there.

EDIT: Just checked by searching 'status' when I join with 150 ping. It's allocating me to American servers, when I'm based in Australia.

Any other suggestions?

How do I resolve those issues? It just seems like my hardware is old.

Ok. So it looks like I also lag on some Aus servers. When I tracert the server IP these are the results I get...

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms
2 12 ms 17 ms 12 ms
3 17 ms 17 ms 29 ms
4 14 ms 15 ms 14 ms
5 25 ms 25 ms 27 ms
6 34 ms 34 ms 34 ms
7 67 ms 65 ms 62 ms
8 76 ms 67 ms 61 ms
9 108 ms 108 ms 108 ms
10 108 ms 108 ms 108 ms
11 108 ms 107 ms 110 ms
