High ping after pressing ESC ("SOLVED")
After some March update, I think, my ping goes to ~900 after I press ESC in a match and it takes from 2 to 3 minutes for it to go down.
Why is this happening? Is it the nearby lobbies thing? Can I turn it off?

THE "SOLUTION"

The problem is the loading of News in the main menu, the workaround is to block it:

Go to your hosts file located here: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

Open "hosts" with notepad

Enter the following line at the end:

127.0.0.1 blog.counter-strike.net

Having the same issue. my FPS doesnt drop at all, but ping hits the 900's as soon as I open ESC. been reading other posts, its an old bug since like 2016.

is there a fix already? had this problem since panorama ui, My normal ping is 80 when I press ESC my ping goes 300-500.

Since the update I don't press esc anymore thats why I got used to console cause if I press ESC to change setting or kick I get lag. I also noticed that when my ping goes high like that, in the task manager the steam client bootstrapper eats so much internet

Months later and it still happens, no fix.

Will a fresh reinstall of windows fix that issue too?

I don't think it will fix it by reinstalling cs/windows

In my theory it's because our internet speed is ♥♥♥♥♥ so whenever we press ESC the game loads the "Valve news/updates/blogpost" from the home screen/menu which causes us to lag.

I only have 1mbps btw and I experience this lag since PANORAMA UI so yeah

Yes, that was the case, loading of 'News' on our 1MB internet speed.
That Russian guide fixes this and I also found it in a post from 2016:

Go to your hosts file located here: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

Open "hosts" with notepad

Enter the following line at the end:

127.0.0.1 blog.counter-strike.net

You can also use -no-browser in the launch options.
