Graphic settings reset to high everytime I run the game.
Hello guys, so I just started playing CSGO about a week ago after fixing several annoying issues, such as being stuck in the loading screen while loading a map. However, an issue that I cannot fix is the graphic settings being reset to High everytime I run the game. I want all the settings to be put at the lowest level so that I can have a smooth FPS, but the game INSISTS to have them all on high, resulting in my game lagging from time to time.

This is truly bugging me out, so I tried a method I found online such as deleting the video.txt and the videodefaults.txt config. It didn't work.

Any solutions?

- Disable cloud service in steam
- Go into your local\cfg folder:
\Steam\userdata\*STEAMACCNUMMER*\730\local\cfg
and check your video.txt file. It has to NOT to be read only.
- Best settings are these:
"VideoConfig"
{
"setting.cpu_level" "0"
"setting.gpu_level" "0"
"setting.mat_antialias" "4"
"setting.mat_aaquality" "0"
"setting.mat_forceaniso" "0"
"setting.mat_vsync" "0"
"setting.mat_triplebuffered" "0"
"setting.mat_grain_scale_override" "-1.000000"
"setting.gpu_mem_level" "0"
"setting.mem_level" "2"
"setting.mat_queue_mode" "-1"
"setting.csm_quality_level" "3"
"setting.mat_software_aa_strength" "0"
"setting.mat_motion_blur_enabled" "0"
"setting.defaultres" "1024"
"setting.defaultresheight" "768"
"setting.aspectratiomode" "0"
"setting.fullscreen" "1"
"setting.nowindowborder" "0"
}

Reduce shadow and / or antialiasing if you still have fps problems.

Hey thanks for the reply! Gonna test it out.

Sadly, it didn't work. Even worse, it made the loading a LOT more slower, taking over 6 minutes or so. When it finally loads, the game is unplayable. Unplayable as in, running at 1fps and crashing.

I don't even know what is up with my CSGO anymore. This is even more problematic than all the other games I have.

Uhm, that sounds like your pc is really really slow, because even before you had such problems.

Actually you can go my way vise versa:
- Set the settings you want to use. As I said my settings are the optimum settings, most competitive/pro player use them because it gives you the best fps and at the same time a good looking. What settings do you want to use?
- Copy the settings from your video config (the settings you wanna use) into your videodefault.txt. Save booth .txt-files and make them read-only.
- After that booth videofiles are locked with the same settings (those you want) and the game can't change the settings because they're read only.
