Natus Vincere s1mple's AWP throw - What happened?

I recently started watching professional games (I support Fnatic but I enjoy watching FaZe Clan more), and I saw a Natus Vincere game where s1mple threw an AWP over the wall near window at site B on Dust II. I guess the other guy looked at the AWP, and got shot by s1mple, but what actually happened? Like how does that even work? I'm really confused because the other guy just watched the AWP fall and basically stood there, watching s1mple shoot him.

Oh, ok so then why did s1mple throw the AWP? If it wouldn't impact the 1v1, shouldn't he have kept the AWP?

He decided to push and kill him with the p250, the awp would not have come into play anyway.
He threw the awp because.... he could and its like a 1 in 1000 chance the opponent would get distracted.

The opponent will obviously not place his crosshair aim on the dropping AWP. Simple then goes right into that split second no crosshair spot and is able to kill his opponent first.
