CS GO LOW FPS i5 6500 + GTX 970 / HELP! ! !
Hello! I am struggling with the problem of low FPS in CS for a long time. During the game, the FPS drops up to 90-100 for example on the de_cache map during a regular match. On DM or casual servers I also have fps fluctuations between 120-200. I have a 144 hz monitor and this is a mega problem for me. It seems to me that on these components should be stable 200+ FPS. I checked the use of the processor and graphics card and they are as normal as possible. I've tried everything, different configs, startup parameters, unparked cpu, disable DVR. I reinstalled the system, tried new / old graphic drivers, changed various options in the BIOS but the problem still occurs. Someone has similar equipment or had a similar problem and solved it? PLEASE HELP !!!!

SPEC:
Nvidia Asus Strix GTX 970 4GB
INTEL I5 6500
1TB HDD + 128SSD
8GB RAM

I would say that's just how the map and the game is.
Some cpus like that i5 of yours struggle to stay above 100 on some maps because of low clockspeed. Overclocked i5 6600K/i7 6700K/i5 7600K/i7 7700K/i5 8600K/i7 8700K and you wouldn't have that and would be able to stay well above 144.

I will add that I play on 1024x768 resolution and on the lowest possible details. Its really strange to me...

I watched a lot of videos on youtube and users have a lot better fps and at higher resolutions and better graphic settings, like in this movie:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOUT-18v8CY

Anyone else have any other suggestions?

Graphical quality and resolution only affects GPU load. If cpu can't push more, the quality makes no difference with strong enough gpu.

Most of the time your 970 is very under-utilized at all low 1024x768 and the fps you see, won't change no matter how much you increase the quality.

You would pretty much get exact same fps at High 1080p.
This is called cpu bottleneck. SInce Source engine only can use at most 2 cores, it is very heavily single core performance reliant.

EDIT: Also, that video is 3 years old. The De_Dust has gotten a graphical update and the game has also gotten various different updates which have knowingly affected the performance.
Same goes for Windows. THe Spectre and Meltdown updates for Intel may have affected performance ever so slightly for example.

So why is the user who recorded the movie above on the same components have more FPS? As I wrote, processor usage on 4 cores is around 60-70% so bottleneck does not seem to be a problem here.
I will add that on the old de_dust2 map I have never had much fps and there were drops below 140.

Read my edit.
And yes. The total utilization is 60-70%. THis means that 2 cores would be running at 100% while 2 others run at 20 to 33%.

CPU bottleneck happens when even just 1 core hits 100%.

source only uses 2 cores
if hes getting over 50% on a quad something in the background is using alot of cpu

Since I have this PC, which is 3 years with CS GO, there has always been a problem and the FPS were not on this level. This is not a problem that arose suddenly after some game or windows update, probably we do not understand each other until the end.

Well, there is a chance that your cpu might be running too hot and thermal throttling even under the slightest load.
Check the temperatures while in game.

But then again, it would be bad even on other games then.

I used the afterburner MSI program. It showed me that every CPU 1/2/3/4 was at the level of 70%. In no case was anywhere 100%. Perhaps I am looking at these charts badly, but I still do not think there is a bottleneck problem here. Temperatures were also checked, graphics at the level of 50 degrees, the CPU was also at a similar temperature. I wonder if it could be a matter of installing the card / process in the wrong port? I do not know about technical equipment, I have no idea :(

you cant go by cpu usage % across cores
windwos does a very good job at spreading the load across cores

you can set affinity on csgo to 2 cores and keep track of them
but you cant stop other programs from using those 2 cores
but it will show if you are getting activity beyond those cores

Terrible CPU for such games; you want to throw an i7 @ games like that; the game needs single-core performance.

Use 60Hz mode. If you cannot sustain above 144FPS at all times, there is no point in using 144Hz mode. I would recommend using 120Hz mode or 85Hz mode with Fast Sync enabled (the game REALLY loves fast Sync when it is turned on via the NVIDIA COntrol Panel).

I have a GTX970 and a Core i7-6700K and I still get drops like that sometimes. With that game, anything above 60FPS will give you an advantage. I am using max settings.

Man, do you think there is no difference between 60hz and 144hz? If you are playing at a slightly higher level, 144hz is the basis and every drop in fps below 150 is perceptible: /

There is a difference (it is asthetic only). However, if you cannot sustain above 144FPS 100% of the time in CSGO, there is literally no point in using a 144Hz refresh rate. Refresh rate in CSGO is ireleavnt when compared to frame rate. The higheer the frame rate you have, the more responsive the mosue and game conrtols become.

So i got the same problem, but with different hardware, I have a ryzen 3 3,4Ghz and a GTX 1060 3gb and before the update i had well above 200 FPS but since this update my FPS is barely 50
