Why do pros still use 7.1 Surround sound
After some research about headsets (Stereo vs 7.1 Surround) around 80% of the time people were saying that 7.1 Surround sound isn't good or it's simulated and they reccomend A pair of decent stereo headsets. My question is why is +50% of all pros still use HyperX Cloud II or any other 7.1 Surround sound headsets while it isn't "Good" or better then Stereo.

You are misinformed. Check the game settings, CS:GO supports 5.1, but no 7.1 surround sound.

I use it, too. Properly configured, it is much better than Valve's artifical 3D sound. I am a musician and thus have a fine hearing. Stereo is completely outdated and has been for ages now. Pinpointing sound sources in surround sound is so much more precise, naturally.

They can still use them as stereo headset, the 7.1 system can be turned off

No one in their right mind will prefer stereo with Valve's fake HRTF over true surround sound.

Are all headsets "true surround sound" ?

Well use 7.1 and HRTF?

Well atleast HRTF is a step in the right direction. But its no where near the 1.6 era of surround sound. Other options do give a better sound quality, but worse surround. And CS is all about surround. And pro's disable 7.1 with the Cloud 2 and choose headphones ingame. Most of the times 5.1 and 7.1 make ambient sounds way to loud. Like in train or nuke. And makes the AK sound loud af. However its great in games Battlefield or something. But not with CS.

Because those headsets are stereo headsets with virtual surround. I strongly prefer stereo (with HRTF) to any virtual surround solution I've had so far, though I have to admit that dts headphone x is pretty neat too. Dolby headphone on the other hand is terrible (for locating sounds in CS though still nice for a more ambient feeling in movies).

this "surround sound" crap is just a marketing term to sell overpriced bad quality "gaming" headsets.

Use normal decent headphones + a mic for lot better value and quality and avoid anything that is labeled "GAMING HEADSET" or is from Razer, Logitech, HyperX etc.... those are all scams and are priced more than they should only because of brand, design, and the fact that they are for "gaming"

HRTF is awful and inaccurate compared to a properly setup 5.1 setting. Even with stereo headphones.

If you're talking about sound quality itself then yes. But surround sound quality by far not. Thats the whole point of HRTF is the transfer function for the ears. Even if 5.1 or 7.1 was that great. Every proffesional would be using it. Yet the very opposite is happening. Heck you cant even use surround headsets on tournaments.. they only use earbuds and ear protectors due all the loud sounds. And 5.1 and 7.1 insanly increases sounds you dont even wanna hear even with true 5.1 or virtualized 7.1. The difference is like day and night on surround headsets or stereo with on both settings..

Or you could try yourself in the audio test chamber map..

Decide how much you want to spend on a headset, check reviews and buy accordingly. I wouldn't make virtual surround a requirement, though it's nice to have.

Personally, I am super content with my Logitech G633. It has decent sound quality for its price and you can choose between dolby headphone and dts headphone x. Of course it doesn't compare to twice or three times as expensive stereo headphones some of my friends have.

The real answer is:

The Pros use the HyperX Cloud - Headsets because they have contracts to use sponsored hardware. That's it.

By the way, at least on tournaments they use in-ear-headphones under the headset they wear. It is purely advertising what is happening there.
