Green lines followed by blackout when playing CSGO in 2nd screen
Hey everyone, i`m hoping someone has faced this here before:

I have a lenovo laptop and recently the screen has been an issue so I bought a monitor and wnat to use the laptop primarily as a desktop. Problem is, a few minutes into the game I start seeing some green lines appear and disappear from the monitor, in increasing frequency, and then blackouts in the game.

I CAN SEE in the laptop monitor tha the game is still running normally, it seems to be an issue with the second screen.

CPU temps did not go over 79. Tried 16:9 and 4:3, as well as windowed mode. Nothing so far worked. I`ve also tried with duplicate screens and with "second only" (blank laptop monitor)

The connection between the two is at the moment via HDMI but I can use display port if I buy an adapter (haven't been able to do that yet).

Anyone know how this can be fixed?

Thanks everyone!

If the laptop is in warranty DON'T DO ANYTHING and send it back.

The videocard is damaged and must be replaced.

That or the video plug is bad.

If the video plug is bad his screen should be flickering on and off at all times (or it should "wiggle"), since this happens when his temperatures increase it's something inside the laptop, with the videocard (either the pins aren't connecting properly, or something else, however all of this should be repaired in warranty).

As for how I know of this, coincidentally I used to have a lenovo laptop who did the same thing in 2010. I was playing world of tanks and all of a sudden my screen had a ton of green bars on it, I immediately turned it off, let it cooldown, started it again, no more green bars, played game again for a few minutes, this time the green bars were all over my screen and my entire laptop simply froze, didn't turn on since, so I just bought a replacement (a different laptop)

Thanks for this guys. To be clear, these lines appear ONLY in my monitor (and not in my laptop screen). I don`t care about the flickering of the laptop, I want to use all of its other components since it still runs well all games I want to be playing atm.

Could it be a HDMI issue? If yes, why does it only manifest during games?

I also thought temperature could be the issue, but once again the game is running normally in the laptop when my monitor goes black

PS: not in warranty, it still runs the games without hassle, the issue in the laptop is the actual screen.

Any other ideas? I appreciate it!

It's 90% sure a bad GPU how you were already told.
However, you could try using an external cooling pad and clean your laptop from dust, as mostly those issues appear more often the higher your temperature gets. You also just posted your CPUs temperature, not your GPUs. Also downclocking your GPU could be a workaround.

Could be a bad monitor. Have you tried that monitor on another PC or laptop to see if those problems persist?

If it were the iGPU, the text would be scrambled or half there on the screen. I had a NVIDIA 9800GT go bad on me once and he sypmtoms are exactly as I described. If the OP tests the monitor on another machine, they should be able to get the same results.

You know that there is not the one and only pattern for a bad GPU? A bad monitor usually behaves a bit different, especially if it's connected via HDMI and not an analog connection.
However, there still is a small possibility (in the 10% i left over) it is the monitor, so testing it on another machine won't hurt - however, I stand by my 90% for the GPU, it's one of the most typical patterns.

I play on a lenovo P50 laptop and had this issue I contacted support they had me send it back and said that the video card was damaged and repaired sent it back and I havent had the issue since.

For future reference, it seems like a power issue. Both monitor and the power supply were in the same outlet. As soon as I put them in separate outlets the issue disappeared - at least I`m now able to play for much longer than I could when I wrote this thread. If it returns I`ll update, but I hope this helps other people, I tried many other things suggested in forums before I tried this.

I had an issue like that a few days ago on one of my 3 monitors.
Problem was me being awful at plugginh in the dvi. Plugged it in correctly, and the all the green "pixels" went away.

the laptop doesn't have a thing those green lines mean that the cable is either not seated correctly or the cable is bad.if there's nothing on the laptop screen means the issue is somewhere outside the lapotp like the cable or the monitor.look at both ends of the cable inside their "socket" call it that and see if any of the pins are missaligned.if you rock the cable back and forward those lines should dissapear.the laptops and any other pc's or appliances are designed to work at a certain load and temperature, like those old amd cards 92C and they work perfectly fine.just maybe buy a collingpad for your laptop that should increase it's lifespan and they are pretty cheap.
