Bad FPS in CSGO with i7 8750h and GTX 1060
EDIT: MY PROBLEM WAS THE SINGLE CHANNEL RAM. IT WAS SOLVED WHEN I ADDED A SECOND RAM STICK. I NOW HAVE 250-300 FPS ON AVERAGE. It had nothing to do with cpu, gpu, drivers, launch options etc.

Hello,
So I just bought a new laptop, the Asus Strix Hero II with a i7 8750h, 16gb RAM ddr4 2666mhz, and a GTX 1060 6GB. My problem is that I am barely getting 160-200 fps in CS GO on low settings (I play on 1728x1080 resolution). On high settings I am getting around 120-150 fps. The game is installed on the SSD, and during the game CPU is about 25-30% used at 70-75 degrees, GPU is used 40-45% at ~60-65 degrees. I can't figure out what the problem is because with these specs I should be getting at least 250 fps on low settings. I saw benchmarks on youtube of people getting an average of 210 on Maximum settings with these specs, while I can't even get that on low settings.

E.g. this guy gets near 300 fps at all times on low settings (same exact specs): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gz7fnDWP1ps

Quite often my FPS goes below 144 (which is the refresh rate of the screen) and it's very annoying. On the map Ruby for example I barely have around 100-120 fps at all times.
For reference, on my previous laptop (Lenovo Y700 with i7 6700hq, 16gb ram ddr4 and GTX 960M) I was getting about 150-200 fps on low settings and around 120 on max settings. So you can understand why it is frustrating that I am barely getting around the same FPS on my new setup compared to the previous one.

EDIT: MY PROBLEM WAS THE SINGLE CHANNEL RAM. IT WAS SOLVED WHEN I ADDED A SECOND RAM STICK. I NOW HAVE 250-300 FPS ON AVERAGE. It had nothing to do with cpu, gpu, drivers, launch options etc.

It's really obvious that all these people are clueless. It's also obvious that your problem is related to either throttling or bad configuration (didn't read the comments.)

I have a i7-9750h - rtx2070 maxq and I can maintain 300+.

It's not throttling, the laptop came with single channel RAM, i didn't know the issues this would entail, and apparently no one else here knew either. Anyway, this was fixed when I added a second RAM stick.

I love it how almost no one here knows what the hell they're talking about and still think laptops for gaming are a gimmick.

Yeah, right? A clueless trash talker commented on the first page and said "i7 is poop for gaming", and that my 6 core 3.9GHz CPU is bad, clearly not having any idea what the hell he was talking about.

Anyway I'm glad I can finally enjoy this laptop. The 144Hz screen with great color accuracy and high FPS make it very enjoyable to play games on a laptop even.

Just saw this now. The ram model is Crucial 16GB DDR4 2666, you can find it on amazon, it was the cheapest and very close in terms of specs to my original ram, and it works perfectly. Make sure it's SODIMM (the one for laptops) when you buy your ram (if you didn't already buy it).
man u have to be happy with that i get 350 fps but my monitor is 60hz lol
Are you using Windows 10? Then you may have game recording enabled. That reduces FPS. Go to Settings, then Gaming, then disable the recording option. I've had that on for a while and I was getting poor FPS. Maybe try that.
Think you lose fps because of the cpu temp
as more the temperature increase the more it trottles to prevent a crash.

Not sure what you can do to improve the cooling on your laptop except from changing the cooling paste out with some new or maybe buy some cooling pads if they can fit

edit: can self play in 4k for several hours and my cpu stay at 31c & gpu 55c (max temps)
again not a laptop i got but a custom build water cooled gaming pc

I'm no expert but have you tried like updating drivers and mate you could reinstall csgo. What's the fps in iter games?
The drivers are up to date, I got the laptop like 3 weeks ago and I installed the latest drivers. I did try reinstalling drivers and steam altogether, nothing changed. I have only tried Shadow of The Tomb Raider and it runs on well on HIGH (same FPS as this guy for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OP88nDKEEEs&t=12s ) and Overwatch which also has problems (as I mentioned in the post).

Here's a few things. Make sure your nvidia graphic settings are correct in the Nvidia control panel. Try enabling cl_forcepreload in your launch options for the game and set the thread count to whatever is appropriate for your cpu in the launch options as well.

i7 is poop for gaming
From just these forums your in,most people with problems in csgo use i7
You just love trash talking don't you? A 6 core i7 with 3.9Ghz frequency is poop for gaming? GTFO, I was using a i7 6700HQ 4 core before this and had good fps, if you have no solutions please abstain yourself from posting nonsense.
i recently exchanged all of my parts, including a huge cpu upgrade. and i can tell, all you need is good ram and good gfx, so if the cpu is good or not doesnt matter too much for you right now

are you using launchoptions?

did you manually install drivers? (more than windows update)

did you check your grafic cards driver settings? (remove weird options like "chill" and other strange stuff)

Guys I already mentioned my problem was the single channel RAM and it was solved when I added the second stick. I'm now getting 250-300 fps, so it didn't have anything to do with other drivers, nvidia settings, etc.
Thank you so much buddy!!!
I bought the ASUS Scar Strix III, i7-9750h with RTX 2070 and I get barely 167 fps.
Now I know.
Thank you again. :csgo_gg:
If you have a single channel RAM may be it is the problem , a dual channel RAM will boost your fps a lot .
