For csgo upgrade RAM or to ssd?
I’m currently building a low - mid range pc for my friend so he can get into csgo. I need it to get around 130 FPS in pro settings specs:

Core2 quad q8400 @ 2.66ghz not overclockable

4gb ddr2 (upgradable to 8)

Western digital 500gb 5200rpm laptop hdd

Thermaltake 450watt psu

AMD HD7850 2GB gigabyte factory overclocked whatever (same as gtx 750)

Good airflow 3 fans

ASUS p5ql SE motherboard lga 775

This PC literally cost me only $57 AUD and I have another $35 left to spend for either an ssd or ram. I all myself comment any questions yeah I guess ssd or ram?

Also I doubt there will be any need to multitask

SSD. 5200 rpm drives are really slow.

Right now it gets 60 FPS so it isn’t as potato as a 30$ laptop

I refuse to believe 30 dollar laptops exist
edit: sadly they do exist albeit with issues

Thats in the potato-very low range.
This. That is an absolute low tier pc. Low-mid tier pcs costs ~300-500 euro.

@OP
4gig ram isn't enough for windows10 and csgo. 8gig is necessary for that or the pc will struggle. Also ram isn't expensive.
Ssds got cheaper through the past years but it won't increase the fps or stability that much. It's more there for loading times.

Also we in germany have a phrase: "Wer günstig kauft, kauft zwei Mal" which means: "When you buy cheap stuff you've to buy twice"
-> Buy something good.
For 500 euro you already get good stuff.

A Core2Quad has no place in a CSGO build these days. Don't think there would be a difference between SSD and HDD because they'd be held back by other parts of the system. Do 775 motherboards even have SATA 3?

Its even DDR2, I don't think that that PC will even get 30 fps :D
Yeah even my pc I bought in 2011 is better(only use it as a NAS now). That pc is just not even worth buying. It's maybe good enough to gift it to your parents so they can surf in the internet a little bit - but even that will lag. I gifted my mother a laptop in 2009 and that laptop is probably still faster than the pc from OP...

8 Gigs is the absolute minimum these days, why bother with anything less?
