how do the colored stars work is it just random like opening a case or?

Level 1 – Grey Medal.
Level 2 – Green Medal.
Level 3 – Blue Medal.
Level 4 – Purple Medal.
Level 5 – Pink Medal.
Level 6 – Red Medal. - No one has this afaik

Red is not a fake. Also there use to be a black, but now Valve removed it. In fact not only red, but a pink aswel never was reached. I saw cheaters who hacked servers and they had several medals at once inclueding red. But if we are talking about fair players noone have a medal higher then lvl4.

He never said it's a fake. He said afaik. That means "as far as I know".

Either way the rest is correct. In order to get the pink one you've to play like 16 hrs effective a day for a whole year and start woth level 40 on day one so you get one coin directly (someone calculated that on youtube).

That are just the levels of medals you can get. Whenever you get to rank 40 you get a higher level.

Actually it's one of the most used shortcuts in forums together with "asap" (as soon as possible) I'd say. But everyone can learn something new every day. :)

For pink medal you have to play comp like working (8 hours a day/7 days a week) for entire year and I’m not sure if it’s enough.
Red medal is impossible, unless you grind like 14 hours a day (2 hours for eating and 8 hours for sleeping) and imagine how life would be ruined

Yep I was playing 7h per day everyday to get a 3ed lvl medal in 2017. If you do not have a number of ranks in the beginning, 8h per day 7 days a week is not enough for the pink :c maybe it is if you will save medal for 1st jan and then start a year with already 1lvl medal, but you still will have to play freaking much to get the 4th lvl by the end of the year.

Someone already got 3rd tier 2019 medal by 31st August. I got same tier in September 20 and I already got 1st tier on day 1 and grind every week until reduced xp. I stop grinding now since I only want the blue medal, and im glad about it as people might don’t really care about service medal much.

I prefer the light blue better so I didn’t grind much back in 2017, but from 2018 the 2nd tier turn into green and I don’t like it, but it’s still better than grey :/ and 2018 design is not that good. The design of 2019 medal is what motivates me to do blue medal.

Yes, but just to clarify: your medal tier resets, not your rank level. I got my first 2019 medal (grey) in early February because I ended 2018 at around level 25. if someone is level 39 on NYE and grinds the rest the day after, that person could get 2020 service medal (tier 1) on January 1st.
