Low FPS on High End PC

Hey guys,

I just finished up my PC and my first test was extremely disappointing to say the least. I tested with CS:GO because it was the only game that I remembered to back up and even though I didn't build the PC for CS:GO I do play it a fair amount.

Currently I'm getting 70 - 120 fps on average on 1080p at 144Hz.

CPU: Intel i7 7800X
GPU: GeForce GTX 1080Ti Founders Edition
RAM: 32GB
MOBO: Asus STRIX X299-E Gaming

In game settings don't seem to change much - lowest / highest graphics settings are giving very similar results.

I have monitored the temps of everything and CPU is sitting around 35 degrees and GPU at around 50 or so. I have all the latest drivers installed and a fresh copy of Windows 10 installed, and everything is running off an SSD.

I just know that these specs should be resulting in far higher FPS.

Any suggestions?

GTA V and Dishonored 2 run extremely smoothly on max settings at 1080p and 144Hz. CSGO still running at 100 ish dropping to 60.

I will check this when I'm at home, although I am using a Display Port cable, and I'm fairly sure that the motherboard won't have a Display Port on it for graphics? Checking this now.

I doubt the problem is graphics performance, since changing resolution and details did not result in a change of framerate. Not suprising anyway, with that GPU.

Maybe try different settings for +mat_queue_mode, either -2, -1 or 2 in your launch options and see if it improves your framerate. The maximum amount of threads CSGO can use is 4, setting -threads above that value bears no improvement. The threads command should not be needed for CSGO to use its maximum amount of threads anyway though.

I agree with this, based on the graphics not making much difference. I feel like it's something to do with the CPU not being utilized properly for some reason. I'll give this a go when I get home this evening.

You need more testing. Try some benchmarks or other games. If there is great performance else where then you know its a driver/CSGO issue.

You should be getting higher frames m8, running with a i5-7600K @ 4.2 GHz, and a gtx 1050ti 4gb, csgo at ultra settings with 200+ fps...

Be sure drivers are updated and hrtf sound is OFF..

There was some kind of console command, not sure if "use_hrtf 0" or whatever... Be sure to choose headphones or 7.1 from the sound options in either case :D ...

Turning off hrtf is a big disadvantage considering it helps you with footsteps a lot. Try checking on your cores and your gpu usage using speccy. You may be using the wrong graphics cards in game so I would check bios to see if you can force to the 1080

Do u have high performance enabled? Check your energy settings that you arent running energy saving or balanced, always go with high performance

if he have the correct graphic drivers the monitor will never have image plugged on motherboard

I am pretty certain that he does not have an onboard GPU.

I can confirm that there is no onboard GPU, I'm definitely plugged into my GPU card.

Aha! I haven't checked the energy settings, that's something that completely skipped my mind. I'll be sure to check that tonight. Thanks!

Yeah, I really don't want to turn this off. And tbh, I really don't think that it should affect the performance to this extend.
