What's up with the packet loss on eu servers?
Yesterday I was playing with 0% loss, today I play with 4-8% loss constantly

What is going on?

I even have packet loss on typing "status" in the console lol

What I know so far
- Rates don't help at all, actually setting them to 0 (and them being set to minimum value) will increase the packet loss.

- Direct "tracert" to the server via cmd won't show any packet loss

- The console will show that the servers are apparently full, and they are doing "something" (load balancing, no idea what that does) to lessen the load on them. This looks like this:
Cluster 'vie' selection penalty for load balancing purposes changed from 9ms to 11ms. (As per vie#125 (185.25.182.225:27031)).
Cluster 'vie' selection penalty for load balancing purposes changed from 8ms to 9ms. (As per vie#125 (185.25.182.225:27031)).

- This happens on all EU servers when most people play the game.

- If you don't have loss when someone else does, you will start having loss when he stops having loss, tho, when the servers are too full, everyone will have loss.

- I noticed this happening since 2 days ago, ignored it the first time, made this topic the second time, and now I keep on editing it.

- Apparently even console commands can have packet loss

Anyone know anything about this?

Just tried it out in dota2, I have 0% loss there, on whatever server I join.

In csgo not even my console commands register:

Open the cmd prompt (Windows key + R, cmd) and type "tracert 146.66.152.40" without the quotes. This will run a packet test and record the ping to every hop along the way. I ran one just now and one hop after entering Valve's network at lux.valve.net timed out; indicating there is an issue there.

Run a tracert and contact Steam Support, there is likely an issue with their routing. Also, the amount of players that have their rate configured too low is almost embarassing =\ they probably get choke and don't even know it.

tried doing it from the cmd, but I don't get any loss there.

I did notice that setting my rate to "0" while in the match my loss would increase to a constant 10%

Setting it to 999999 (so it sets it to the max), it would set it to a minimum of 3% during freezetime, and increase it to 6-8% while playing

Tracing route to 146.66.152.40 over a maximum of 30 hops

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.100.1
2 2 ms 2 ms 1 ms 109.99.43.193
3 6 ms 4 ms 4 ms 10.0.245.49
4 46 ms 43 ms 41 ms 10.0.225.229
5 46 ms 41 ms 42 ms 10.0.240.133
6 42 ms 42 ms 42 ms 10.0.222.138
7 40 ms 40 ms 40 ms 193.231.106.146
8 43 ms 43 ms 43 ms 192.168.135.253
9 76 ms 95 ms 73 ms 192.168.130.1
10 49 ms 48 ms 49 ms 146.66.152.40

Also, my "public" ip isn't there, so no need to worry about that.

edit: forgot to mention, I tried playing with the "steam datagram" enabled and disabled, but the loss was the same (gameplay was a lot more choppy as well while having it enabled).

It was likely a temporary issue. Run a tracert to the server you're connected to the next time you get loss; if there's an abnormal response time across any of the hops, that's likely what's causing it. Within Valve's network = send in a support ticket, outside Valve's network = nothing you can do.

Seems to have been a temporary issue:

hostname: Valve CS:GO EU West Server (srcds041.134.5)

as this server doesn't have any problems.

Well, the eu west server keeps having issues it seems. Eu east / dota2 servers don't have any loss :/

Have you read the responses to this thread? Because I just walked OP through it.

I keep doing tracerts to the server, yet I don't have any packet loss while doing tracert to the server.

Now I have loss 10-12% on an Eu East server.

Thing is, the people I'm playing with report alternating loss, when me and a guy have loss, the 3 others don't, when we have 0 loss, they have the loss we had

Run the tracert while you experience the loss; if there are no abnormal hops, investigate local software or contact your ISP for any possible filtering activities they're doing.

The server doesn't handle loss, loss is your packets being lost in transit; i.e. never received.
AzKat 🐔 Jan 14, 2017 @ 1:29pm
already did, 0% loss on tracert
AzKat 🐔 Jan 14, 2017 @ 1:32pm
I'm guessing the "load balancing purposes" = too many users on the servers and that's why we get packet loss.
