Moving/Copying csgo to another PC?
Hey I just ordered a new pc and instead of downloading every game I wondered how I could move/copy the games over.

Use an External Storage Device and Transfer the Steam folder to it.

This and maybe a USB (at least 16 GB) make sure it's empty or make sure that it has enough space for it.

You could install the old HD into your new rig and simply copy the whole Steam folder onto the new drive. Once you execute the Steam.exe, it will properly install on your new system.

I would definitely keep the old drive as a backup drive. More disk space never hurts.

P.S. Make sure you partition your new drive before installing anything else on it, and have all your game data installed on the second partition so that you can always re-install Windows (or install a new Windows) on that drive without erasing any important data.

Just to finish the thread. It's dead simple. Linus made a great video (STEAM Guide - How to Drag & Drop Install Games and Run Off an External Drive NCIX Tech Tips)

Thanks a lot guys and I look forward to beating you with my gtx 1070 and 144hz display!!

You don't need a video guide, there are several options:
  1. Copy the Steam folder onto an external drive (if it's not that big, a USB stick will do), then onto your new drive's secondary partition (the primary should be OS and system-related stuff only).

  2. Use a cloud system to upload, then download the folder (wouldn't recommend that one for several reasons).

  3. Connect the two computers on a network and copy directly (requires the most computer knowledge from all three options).

I'm pretty sure the time it takes to copy all the files would be around the same as the time it takes to download

Nope. Via direct-connect or USB 3.0 it works pretty fast, especially if you have superfast USB sticks or external drives. Also, you can't download certain custom content such as configs. ;)

Not nearly, no. Even USB 2.0 manages around 20 MB/s. You'd need a 160 Mbit/s connection to match that. If he connects with SATA or USB 3.0, no chance a download would be faster.

16GB? Lol
My Steam libary has currently over 1TB of installed games and I didnt even install all of them, I think he should atleast use an 500GB USB 3.0/3.1 External Hard Drive
