1800 ping During competitive Matchmaking. But servers on steam refesh 20-50 ping all round.
Good afternoon everyone.

I was playing CS GO for about 3 MM games and had an average of 30-50 ping while playing solo.
My next game i added one of my Clan members to the Lobby. And he does not live far away from me.
During our game it started fine with 30-50 ping then moved up to 100. This was still Playable.
After the round. Ping shot up to 500-800. And 3 minutes later a constant 1200-1800 ping. During gameplay while this ping was High. I checked the Steam Hub. > View > Servers, and refreshed my server list while in game.

All of my servers were showing 30-50 ping including the server i was logged into. on the steam server list history tab. I checked the Favourites and internet tabs as well. All pings were 30-50.

This problem started about a week ago. There is no other problems. I get 1.8 mb/s download speed on a 2 mb line via Fast.com.
Speedtest.net is showing 243 ping to US and 260 to EU servers. And closest im still getting 50 ping in south africa.

This was all checked While in MM with 1800 ping.
I have checked the forums, i have set my Rate to 128000 and cl_updaterate and all those settings. Nothing seems to work.

I have also while getting this high ping during this game i checked YouTube. And i was streaming just fine.

None of the other players were having this problem so i do not Think that this can be a server issue.
The only thing i can susspect is that the Exchange close to me is being looked at or worked on but during 8pm ?

If any one has any idea please let me know.
Thanks

Any fixes yet any one ?

well for starters, 2 Mb is only 0.25 Megabytes (Mb is Megabit, MB is megabyte) so thats honestly not very fast... personally i got 56 Mb from that test, which is actually weird since i have a 50 Mb bandwidth limit.

Regardless, that SHOULD be enough to play a game at least. Has this issue happened multiple times? Does it occur mid-game and carry over to another? Do you have accompanying FPS drops?

TBH, i have recently started noticing random ping spikes, but only for a second or two at most.

No FPS Drops it stays at 250-300 FPS Witch reminds me i need to put buffering on so i wont do screen tearing.

This has happned Multiple times.
As i have Mentioned. I start 2-3 games mostly with a constant 30-50 ping but its solid. And the out of no where maybe at 8pm it will go up. There are no downloads running. No malware. No windows Background updater or anything.

The pings show fine on server refresh list on steam. But IN-GAME 1800 ??

This has happned before but where my game would start 30-50 and 5 rounds in ot would be a constant 200, Witch i can still play well at. But tonight it shot up to 1800. I was not even able to buy my team mates weapons.

So i have tested downloads while in the backround. even started a steam download. and it was going at the ave 240-260 kbps download speed. stopped the download and still 1800 ping. i tested a lot of things During the game in the background just to make sure. And it was all fine and well. No Problems. Even Other servers were showing 30-50 ping INCLUDING the one i was playing on at the moment. Except . I pressed ALT-Tab again and in game still 1800.

This is what baffles me. Ive never seen this happen before.:csgoct:

Check my last Screenshot uploads on the Netgraph. 0% loss 0% choke 1880 ping.

sorry for the delay, was in a competitive game :P

That is a crapload of ping, honestly some of the MOST ping ive seen in a match...

There was a phase a month or two ago, i had the same issue, had to restart CSGO after a few games to keep the ping low.

What im curious though is that you mention this happens at 8pm, im assuming most of those times. Do you have satellite internet? It would explain the low Mb/s you have, since satellite bandwidth is VERY small compared to cable. I knew a guy with satellite internet who had a similar issue, except his was bad all day until about 10pm where it would become crystal clear again. It has to do with the satellite orbits and how clear a view you have to them.

Nope no satelite internet. I am in south africa on a 2meg line. DSL home line. But like i have mentioned before. This only started about a week ago. And everything shows 30-50 ping including the server i was in at the time on steam view server refresh. But when i go back to game 2 seconds after the refresh shows 30-50 for the servers. its 1800 in game

alright, just wanted to check! And wow DSL, i didnt know that was still in use, i thought it was all replaced with cable :o interesting

Well from what im seeing, it could be the bug i had where you have to restart the game after every match or two. I dont know what caused the bug or what fixed it, i had made a post and noone had answered... doesnt even sound like something a Verify could fix. For the time being, give that a try, its the only thing i can think of :( Sorry man

i have tried restarting the pc and router during match while they paused. i played a match today and it started 20-30 ping. then round 5 50-80 ping round 21 it was 200-300 and then back to 50-80 then now and then back to 250 ... its just so random.

go to server you wanna play, type "status" in console to get server IP. then run cmd.exe and type "tracert x.x.x.x" (replace x.x.x.x with IP)

Try this with both low ping and high ping. If the number of hops increased, it could mean something in your connection route is changing. It might be close to you or very far away.

If the number of hops remains somewhat the same, then try this too;

First (in cmd.exe) do "ping 192.168.1.1"... if the ping is <1ms, then good, if its higher then you have an issue somewhere in your very home... could be a bad/lose cable, a bad router, etc. If that passes both during low ping and high ping times, do the same except "ping google.com"... Again, during low and high ping times. If the ping is much higher during your csgo high-ping times, then i would contact your ISP and see what they can do. Even if they cant do anything, maybe you can get some information about the problem to understand it better. If it remains about the same, then its an issue with the particular server your connecting to, and i recommend trying to connect to another one.
