Using a joystick for movement in GSGO
I am using the joystick on an Xbox controller for movement in conjunction with a mouse for aiming. I want to setup the deadzone so it outputs the same as pressing the Strafe LEFT and Strafe RIGHT keys so when the joystick is released I stop dead and do not glide.

Is it possible to bind a key so it produces the same result as pressing the Strafe LEFT and Straight RIGHT keys together?

I already have the innerzone of the joystick setup to WALK and the outerzone of the joystick setup so it RUNS, this is great as pushing the joytick gently walks and when you push it hard it runs, if I could only set it up so when the joystick is centre it stops dead and does not glide I would be happy.

I worked in aerospace for 20 years, please no comments about how a keyboard is better, if a keyboard was best for moving objects then they would be fitted in aircraft and not joysticks. A mouse is better for aiming but a joystick is best for movement. In fighter aircraft they use don't use a mouse for aiming but they use HUDs in helmets that work on the same principles as a mouse but they use a joystick for controlling the movement of the aircraft.

There are some things in aircraft that do not have a joystick.
Just saying.
And i don't think adding rudder pedals is going to work either.

Go read up on the science of why a mouse is better than a joystick for aiming then apply the same science to a keyboard compared to a joystick for movement.
The mouse is better for aiming because it has a greater range of movement than a joystick, a keyboard only has 2 states of movement, PRESSED and RELEASED, while a joystick has many different states in between. Do you think that if a keyboard was better for movement they would not fit them in multimillion dollar fighter aircraft?

I also know of a player ranked Global Elite who is using an xbox controller with a mouse.

Funny you should say that, if I cant get the xboxcontroller to stop dead and not glide then I might relocate the keyboard down by my feet so that I can stop the glide using my feet.

What are the rules on controllers and peripeherals? I presume as long as there is no automation and your own body movements are controlling the character then it is OK. As soon as you have something that is automatically making movements for you then that would be no no.

I like the sound of it, kids left thumbs are hard wired for console movement. It's the mouse that differentiates pc and console.

So then you're holding half an xbox controller in your hand awkwardly and a mouse in the other?

Just get a racing wheel and play with that if you wanna be edgy lol.

Seems like a good idea, the only problem is the ability to come to a stop quickly. I wasn't making any judgement on what sort of arrangement was required to do so. It might be an idea to put a joystick on a keyboard in the future. Go figure. Edgy? Just lol.

Oh dear..... perhaps you haven't noticed but when you hold your hands out they are not flat and level and it's far easier to let the xbox controller sit in your lap and use your left hand to operate it than it is having your arm outstetched operating a keyboard.

Stay simple it suits you.

you mean deadzone for the mouse is alot smaller then the deadzone on the right/left stick of that of a controller kb/m is good for pc controller good for pc games that are controller heavy i use a logictech controller on csgo time to time to mess around on comp with a few buddies but i mainly use mouse for comp controllers are good if you are starting out on pc after you came off console moral is controllers arent good for fps games cause the deadzones are bad but i do agree with you though on some of that

Go check the advanced settings for Steam using an xboxcontroller, you can customise the deadzone and any many other advanced features, you get a centre deadzone amount(0-100%), you get a centre zone(0-100%) and you get an outer deadzone as well, have been experimenting and testing times between keyboard and joystick, the joystick is far more comfortable to use and you can move a lot smoother than with a keyboard, I just need to bind the centre deadzone to the StrafeLEFT and StrafeRIGHT keys simultanesouly. In effect I am doing away with the deadzones and instead using them to either FREEZE or RUN.
