Laws surrounding recording of others in voice chat
So my friend just bought her first gaming PC and she's wondering if it's illegal to record others in voice chat on CS:GO and upload it to YouTube? Like if someone would be really salty and copyright claim them if they ever found them? If anyone knows anything about this please let me know. She's from Sweden by the way if that has anything to do with it. Thanks!

If you are in a public place you can record voice and photos. The game is not a private venue so you cannot expect privacy like in your own home.

But it is a public domain though, surely it's your own fault for speaking in the first place...

This is true.

Valve bases on American law, local to Washington DC.

And also, according to most laws of the worlds nations, Anything you do on a public domain (Be that a virtual, or public place) is your responsibility.

In Public area, you can be filmed, and recorded if its unintrusive (not concentrated at you, but you being part of a group, or just a bystander in the area) You can ask to be blurred on public domain if you dont want to be shown.

In a Virtual public domain, for example a game server, you agree in game EULA that your actions might be recorded, be it private or a public user doing that.

You should ask the players you were playing with/recorded the voice of if they want to be in the vid, if not, just mute them.
Like Chiku mentioned, if it's a public domain they can't really do anything about it even if they had a say or not

Most youtbers ask people if they are OK with getting in video..

I forgot to add that by them accepting the EULA and playing the game on public servers they thereby accept to be recorded.

Its called goodwill. Although asking is not required, its usually recommended thing to do. Even though no law or copyright will ever need you to do so.

Depending on the size of ones channel, I think most people would be stoked to get into a video on such a huge platform like YouTube

As a Judge, I will say that no, it is not unlawful for someone to record in-game audio as you speak and upload it to a third-party site (i.e. YouTube) because the use of voice chat in CSGO occurs in a (a) Public Domain and (b) where the user takes responsibility for his or her own actions conducted within that Public Domain in accordance with the terms and agreements renderd by the body in charge of the said Domain.
