I'm using a dot crosshair that expands slightly while firing and is static while moving.

Stay with a very simple one and just practice with what you have
No point in changing it if you are already good with it

Ithink you should use a small crosshair
Large crosshair. REALLY LARGE. Make sure it touches the end of the screen. And make sure it's wide. While you are at it buy a second monitor and connect them both to work with the game. Not a third one though, you don't wanna see the middle of your screen.

Real answer: I use a smaller one, with a bright colour like green which doesn't blend in with the background.

If it's working for you don't change. If it's uncomfortable mess around with the colour and size.

I'd recommand a bit smaller than default. Also dynamic cross if you are new guy - so you know exactly when your recoil reset and it helps you while straifing (moving one direction - shoot- go back) cus you know when your shots are accurate. After playing some time it's your personal preference :)
