Borderlands GOTY Enhanced

Borderlands GOTY Enhanced

I keep getting General Protection Fault
Literally every time I press continue and boot to the menu screen on boot.

I played a decent amount of time so far with no issues at all, GTX 770 here a little dated but playable fully.

Has Gearbox even addressed these issues? Will there be a patch anytime soon or are they focused on BL3 and just released this into the wild without a care in the world?

I've tried a guide and user suggestions, nothing works. So like. What the ♥♥♥♥.

ATTENTION USERS WHO HAVE THIS ISSUE

Clean re-install your Nvidia Drivers using this tool: https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html

Look up a guide on youtube if you do not know how to use it.

First thing I tried yeah.
Tried adding it as an exception to the wirewall both GOTY and the Launcher, nothing.
Copied a DLL and renamed it as instructed in a guide, also nothing.

Not sure why my game is busted suddenly I've launched / opened it multiple times before this happening but it started yesterday. I did do a Disk Cleanup but I'm not sure why that'd bother the game when literally any other game of mine works and I have over 50 installed.

"Copied a DLL and renamed it"
Never do this ♥♥♥♥, it's how you break a game

Manually delete the win64 folder in the Binaries folder:
'\BorderlandsGOTYEnhanced\Binaries'

Then verify your game again.

Well that's a good meme, support telling you to manipulate and download dll's. But the thing is he said it worked at one point, which means this wasn't the problem.

I'd also suggest clean installing your GPU drivers as it's an nvidia card so it will have physX.
Doesn't make the slightest sense why I'd have to redownload drivers at all but I'll have to do that later when my internet is up to par. It'd be really great if Gearbox could actually fix issues like these. Clearly if many other games of mine can run flawlessly as did this game until recently then it's an issue on their end against some PCs.

Really hope Gearbox isn't lazy on this one and we have a patch soon.

Because if the guide you linked is correct the issue is caused by your system missing a dynamic link library specifically physx. This comes with your GPU drivers.

But there are many other factors:
-Anti virus
-Corrupted GPU drivers
-Corrupted system files

I'm guessing the guide you linked knows what they are talking about. Because I only know that error from a programming point of view, aka you are accessing some protected memory.

Alright so.. I'm assuming something was deleted in my binaries folder at some point maybe when I did a disk cleanup (which sounds unlikely because it shouldn't touch that)

I also sometimes delete files in my %temp% folder but also shouldn't have caused it.

I deleted and verified the cache and it works now. If that problem happens again I'll just redo it I suppose. As long as it doesn't touch my saves or my progress I'm not worried. Much appreciated, _H3X1C

All this time I've been waiting for the files to redownload lmao. Slow ISP isn't the best ISP but all is good now it seems.

Just to confirm, me deleting my binaries folder didn't lose any sort of progress at all right? I know my .sav files are in another older but I just want to be sure.

Binaries are just binaries, they don't contain game data or user data. So it's safe to delete them.
Alright thank you. Much appreciated again :cskel:

I had the same problem.

the fix for me was im on Win 10 and i made the game .exe an exception in Windows Defender.
Yeah by default the game was already an exception both GOTY and Launcher but I didn't even think of the binaries having a problem.. Didn't make sense since I didn't mess with the files and I verified the cache. But works now so all good
Man. This game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥.
I change the graphics up to ultra through the launcher, I get general protection fault.
I delete the binaries and verify then launch it (how I fixed it before) and I still get it. Lmao.

Go to game directory...

D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\BorderlandsGOTYEnhanced\Binaries\Win64

Run BorderlandsGOTY.exe

See if that works.

I had to use a shortcut to that file on my desktop to play the game.
