No sound/audio fix
If anyone has this problem where the audio just stops working after spawning this might help:

Go to your Documents folder and then -> My Games -> Borderlands Game of the Year -> Config

Once in there, open "WillowEngine" with notepad and press F3 to open the search window. Once there, type "bHasVoiceEnabled" and replace "true" for "false".

Save the changes and voila.

Thank you! I was able to get audio by going to the ingame audio menu and turning off "Enable Voice". This is so stupid that a bug this huge went unnoticed.

Hey,

both of your solutions are not working for me. I have no idea, why it isn't working. That is such a huge bug and I can't play it now, that's sad.

I have fixed it also. I had a weird audio driver. I found this out by typing "audio" in windows to search the system and then I found a suspicious driver, uninstalled it and it finally worked.

I have the opposite problem, the menu sound works but there is no sound in cut-scenes, have tried this solution, changing screen options, nothing seems to work.

Everything up to date? GPU drivers, audio drivers, etc.?

Try this: launch the game, let it play until the point where you lose the sound, alt-tab and look if your audio device has changed. If so, switch it back to the one you use. Go back into the game and check if you have sound.

If this keeps happening, you can disable all audio devices before playing Borderlands and leaving only the one you will use for the game.

Same here, did you ever find a solution?
seth_smurf Sep 9, 2023 @ 3:16am
I fixed my sound by, turning OFF "Enable Voice" in-game under Audio.
unco4u Sep 24, 2023 @ 8:19am
I didn't need to disable voice. Just set up a sample rate up to 192 KHz in Windows, your output device sound settings. Any resolution works (16, 24 or 32 bits). In my case I'm using a DAC and headphones.
