Resolution setting problems
I set my resolution to 1080p 144hz. I go back to the menu and it's at 50hz. It happens every time not matter the resolution. It doesn't save settings. Also no drop down menu kinda sucks.

Hello, all, I have followed some of the instructions above but what I am getting is a weird overscan effect which shows on the left side of the screen like its wrapping the display from the right to the left.

I hope this makes sense, did anyone else get this issue, I am using a Samsung g9 @5120x1440

That's an "UltraWide" resolution and as such it's not a "normal" standard resolution at all. As you've no doubt already seen (because you're using that monitor) there are some older games that do not and can not support UltraWide resolutions. I've never tried such a thing myself but I believe this game probably doesn't support Ultra-Wide. I could try it on my one system with Nvidia and see if something like 5760 x 1080 would produce the same result. If it does then it's just a limitation of the game it's self. I'll try it in a bit and report back later.

for a possible solution, you might have to replace your .exe to get it to work.

i'm trying to set a custom res of 900 x 600 so it will run smooth on my tablet. It seems to be ignoring the data I put into the willow at that folder address. Not sure if the enhanced keeps a different willowengine to the standard goty. It if does I can't find it.

Hey dude,

yeah actually that contains all the fixes needed to get underway for a lot of issues faced by gaming on a modern rig, its really helped and actually turns out FXAA filtering was the issue causing the weird overlay artifacts.

Will do my friend, I had it on the 360 when it first came out so just a nostalgia thing for me!

Go to here on your computer: C:\Users\<Username>\Documents\My games\Borderlands Game of the Year\WillowGame\Config

Open WillowEngine and control-F and search for ResX=
Set your resolution manually.
For me I play at 1440p so it's:
ResX=2650
ResY=1440

Then for refresh rate, the only way I can find is to disable FrameRate Smoothing (limits the game to 62 FPS) and then enable Vsync and it will automatically run at your monitor's maximum refresh rate. If you're worried about input lag then you can run the game in exclusive full screen mode and it shouldn't have any input lag with vsync on.

To do that: Control-F to find bSmoothFrameRate= and make sure it's set to: bSmoothFrameRate=FALSE

Then Control-F to find UseVsync= and make sure it's set to: UseVsync=True

And to put it in to Exclusive Full Screen mode, control-F to find: Fullscreen= and make sure it's set to: Fullscreen=True

When done, right-click on WillowEngine.ini and make sure you set it to read-only, which will prevent the game from resetting all of this each time you start it. Which the game does do. Then everything should work 100%. Unfortunately this game is a steaming pile of crap on options even with the GOTY and we have to fix all of this ourselves manually.
thank you!

thank you!
You're welcome and I'm glad my comment helped someone. However I wanted to add that my original comment was written in 2019, back when I was still using Windows 7. If you are using either Windows 10 or Windows 11 then my comments about Exclusive Fullscreen Mode do not apply as both Windows 10 and Windows 11 do not support Exclusive Fullscreen Mode. That was a Windows 7 only option. You can just ignore those comments about Exclusive Fullscreen Mode today.

I went into the ini file, manually set the resolution, then loaded the game and set everything *again* in the splash menu. I don't know which step was important, but the game now saves graphical settings properly and I'm playing in a sweet 4k ultra. Hope this helps
