Save Data Corrupted! Anyway to fix?

I fired up GOTY enhanced this morning to find that my level 30 soldier character file was corrupted, and I would need to start the game all over. I really do not want to go back and redo 19 hours worth of work, so please help. Is there any way at all to recover or fix a corrupted character save?

With a default installation, the game creates 3 backup files of your saves, all into the Documents\my games\Borderlands Game of the Year\Binaries\SaveData folder. See if you have files in there, and then make a copy of them all to another place first.

Once this has been done, rename your Save0001.sav to something like Save0001.sav.bak, and rename the Save0001.sav.bak1 to Save0001.sav. You can also try it with the bak2, and bak3 files. Maybe one of those is not corrupted... you may lose some progress, but not all.

You could also try to open the sav and bak files in Willowtree to see if they at least open up in there, because if they do, then maybe something else has caused an issue. What kind of corruption did your soldiers save file have?

Don't think there any backup, only one save for each character.

Yep, The enhanced system does not do multiple backups like the orignal game did. /shrug

If you cant get anything to work, you could always create a new character via WillowTree and edit the quests to match the progress you had. It would be some work, but faster then replay the game again.

That's a serious problem, worst bug so far in my opinion.

My folder for Enhanced has .bak files and their creation dates are different from the .sav file which is the newest one.

I was figuring it rewrites the .sav as .bak, and then creates a new .sav file for the latest save? In my case, it looks like the game creates up to 10 backups. So does the OPs games folder contain backup files or not?

Just curious to see if that is the case and can he recover his character.

Do you use Willow Tree?
Willow Tree creates bak files, as far as I know.

"Try opening the main .EXE from the install folder. Others, including myself, had this happen due to an issue with the launcher. Once in game you can disable the launcher from running when starting the game."

Awww crap, yeah must be due to Willowtree as I'm trying to compile a mule with a copy of each legendary and red text weapon I find (due to lack of locker like in BL2). What a bummer, hope opening the exe helps this guy.

You do have a bank in the Underdome fyi, but its not big enough for all red text + legendary on 1 character

I was talking about the Claptrap Locker which lets you move weapons between characters :) I'm just trying to sort through all of them that I earn so that I have a single mule with a copy of every Legendary and Red Text weapon. Only problem is, I still haven't gotten a single Pearlescent :(

Thanks but I actually bit the bullet and replayed the whole game. Still, this is a problem and needs to be fixed. I'll look into that link.
