Creation Kit [CK] Crash Fix?
Hi Guys,
I know and understand that Bethesda's Skyrim Creation Kit is a sorry piece of crap ever since the last update and that it crashes upon the slightest click or for no reason at all, but there has to be some way to fix it. I also have reason to believe that Beth (Bethesda) has completely left the development of the thing and is just leaving it like it is.

Anyone know of any patches/mods/fixes that will at least tone down the crashes?

Also, is there a way to implement new controls? i don't particularly like the way we have to rotate the camera.

Thanks for any help.

1. Go to your Skyrim Directory <\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim>

2. Open your skyrimeditor.ini file

3. Search for sResourceArchiveList2

4. At the end of that line put , DawnGuard.bsa, HearthFires.bsa, Dragonborn.bsa

5. Make sure it looks like this : SResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Update.bsa, Dawnguard.bsa, HearthFires.bsa, Dragonborn.bsa

<PS> You need to add bAllowMultipleMasterFiles=1 to the General Section..to allow more then one masterfile

6. Save the ini

7. Start up your Creation Kit and select Dawnguard.esm or HearthFires.esm or Dragonborn.esm only and load

8.then patiently wait for it to load..and it should all work now

It is also recommended by Darkfox 127 that when you have opened the Creation kit and before you do anything else you make a save. He has found this prevents his CK from crashing.

You should add this to the Help Discussion Thread. Or ask that it get pinned. Very good answer and it would have helped me when I was researching it.

In fact, I did do this, and it works. Much appreciated, but the original question...is there a way to kill the crashes, or at least tone them down?

Depends on WHY it's crashing. If you are getting crashes related to texture/mesh problems (e.g., the CK hates proper 6-panel cubemaps and crashes on them all the time when trying to render actor heads), this "do a save first" trick won't do anything about it at all.

Holy crap, that's a thread necro if I ever saw one.

In....5 years, I've learned the best practices, etc and have since "resolved" the issue.

- Mods, if any; can I have this topic closed please.
