Unfotunately, Rolff Stone-Fist[www.uesp.net] wasn't eligible as "Best sacrifice of the year", else I'd have picked him.
That defeats the point of the quest.
During the Dawnguard story I was sure that Serana was the perfect candidate. Evil vampire (and probable cannibal) and thus a threat to the Dunmer, worshipper of Molag Bal who is Boethiah's enemy, and the game's single most annoying follower. Except... she's essential, even hardcoded to be essential to you can't even use the console to fix it. Plus she has no "I want you to do something" option in her dialog. Grrrr!
So I ended up sacrificing Ralis Sedarys. His collaboration with Ahzidal was his own death warrant. You just don't feed a whole line of faithful Dunmer miners to an undead Nord and expect to get away with it, no matter how contrite you may be afterward.
I might have to do it that way if I can't get past the guilt.
Oh, I see. I've got the woman from the Bannered Mare. We're about to leave Whiterun. She's hateful, but I still feel bad about doing this.
Oh, wow! I guess I can see where you're coming from, but I really don't like betraying someone I'm supposed to care for. I'm not judging you, though. I'm just pretty soft-hearted. :-)
If your character is a soft-hearted individual then she probably wouldn't be making deals with Boethiah in the first place. If she is making such a deal, then the probably isn't all that soft-hearted at all.
Just try and focus on the... incident at Jorrvaskr? (I actually quite like Uthgerd, but yeah. Woman has a Past.)
I understand. So far, though, I've only killed people who've attacked me first. If I cause a death by accident, I reload a save. That's just who I am. It even bothers me that I have so many assaults listed in my stats. Most of those are there because I unintentionally hit Vorstag or guards during combat sequences. I'm only doing these quests because I'm a completionist. Probably won't do them on any subsequent playthroughs.
Yeah, when she told me that story, I felt a bit sorry for her. I'm sure she has other reasons for being bitter, too. I'll just try not to feel guilty after the quest is done. Ugh! I love this game. The Daedric quests break the immersion for me, though.
Sometimes I feel sorry for her. Sometimes I think "well, there's no way I'm taking YOU anywhere with me..." and back away slowly.
I haven't run across that quest, I don't think. I'll Google Ralis Sedarys and maybe I'll remember him from my first playthrough. I played last year for the first time.
Yeah, I may end up being the sacrifice. :-D
