The Barbarian
Hi folks. I decided to play a more true Barbarian class. I am watching youtube vids. and looking around at other barbarian type builds. This is a major change from my sneaky warrior, as I probably won't put too much into sneak until later in the game. Here is what I have so far. It is more of a AD&D type than a Conan type. Your input would be awesome.

Mods contributing to my build are;
Alternate start, the alternate start extension that offers classes and Lilarcor.

My Barbarian so far;

Either Breton (for magic resist) or Nord (for the fear). I did not want an Orc, I want to play a Human this time.

From the load out extension, probably Berserker, maybe a wanderer.

Perks I will focus on, 2 handed sword, smithing, archery, light armor and lock picking. There is one more perk, either speech or enchant, not sure.

Later I might work on sneak and pickpocket, but they will not be essential this run. A first for me.

He will wear furs and studded until he can get mail, then keep that until he can get dragon bone, in keeping with the barbarian look.

I will probably use the shrine that either makes worn armor weightless or the one that offers magic resist.

No magic use except enchant.

Tell me what you think, give me your ideas.

This will be a major digression from my sneaky warrior, hope I am up to it.

Thanks guys.

What would Conan do?
A Conan type would do all the guilds,except the College of Winterhold.
Light armour(preferably fur,leather,chitin or netch(if you have the mod)one handed, two handed, sneak and everything else you can think of except anything having to do with magic.

Dunmer(ashlanders) and orc is also suitable for a barbarian.

Not to burst your bubble...but...Bretons are half Human, half Elf.

Bretons are mainly human with a little Mer blood mixed in way back up the family tree. For all intents and purposes they're lumped in the the other races of Men.
More pressingly, they're viewed as humans by the other human races, and not viewed as elves by elven races.

I think Altmer even hate them a bit? I mean, they hate everybody, but I think they have some extra disdain for them because of their Elf/Human lineage. "Racial Purity" and that fun stuff.

Conan The Barbarian. Not Conan The Berserker.

Agreed. In the original Conan stories and novels, as well as the first movie, Conan was primarily a thief, so he used stealth a lot. Was he big, strong and a really good fighter? Yes, but he generally fought only when stealth failed or when he wanted to make a point.
No sneak or pickpocket, maybe later in the game, if I get bored (or pc gets too influenced by the city). Lockpick is a must for any self respecting dungeon crawler, no matter what they are (plus, I don't have the chest smashing mod).

I did notice that right away, an investment in armor perks is just as important as 2handed perks. At level 1, a lowly thief did a killmove (backflip) on pc.

I also chose block because there are 4 or 5 perks in that tree that aid in blocking with weapons. As far as the archery goes, maybe a little. Enchanting definately, but later in the game, so much has to be put into combat and armor now.
For this build i would defiantly go with the Nord. Yes breton does add the magic resist but the lord stone offers the same thing. Also your skills with two handed, smithing, and light armor gain a boost right of the bat. And since these are going to be your base main three they are probably the most important. Another thing you said dragon bone. Dragon bone is a heavy armor as such none of your skills will effect it so dragon scale is what you would want.
I've a female Nord Barbarian. No magic, and I mean no magic. I RP that she is sensitive to it and will not use (or even touch) anything "cursed" (enchanted). This includes potions (although she may eat NATURAL ingredients).

She only uses Nordic gear (currently Ancient Nordic full set), dual wield axe, 2H sword, bow. No milk-drinking sneaky stuff, no weasely thievery either. So really she's restricted to 1H, 2H, Archery, Heavy, and Smithing. This is the one character I really wish I had a bash locks tool. I know, there's a Lock Overhaul that allows this, but no respectable warrior in their right mind would ever risk their best friend on a few gold coins or baubles. This is also the character I'm using the Uncapper for.

RPing this character from Helgen, she followed Riverwood to Whiterun up until the Western Watchtower. When she shouted she freaked and has been running from the innate magic within her ever since. She does not use shouts, nor will she kill dragons for fear of it happening again.

Nord Mead and plenty of food, haven't had any trouble keeping her alive. Well, except once, upon entry to Solitude when the dog Imperials were set to behead a Nord brother. Stopping the execution (didn't work) lead to a foot chase. At the very last moment, with only a sliver of health, she leaped, and luckily hit the water. Pursuit continued down almost to Morthal, but she had time to stop for a bite and a brew, and took out the straggling pursuers.
