What base mods are needed in Skyrim to let most all other mods to function and what order should you install them?
I Have searched everywhere for a guide and let me tell you there is nothing. All I want to know is what base mods such as Patches, Race Menu, FNIS, XP32, etc. Are needed in Skyrim to let most other mods work and function without having to do these later and overwrite the wrong files and corrupt your whole game which isn't very fun. I have probably broke my Skyrim 100% of the time I have tried modding it. If anyone could make like a bulleted list starting from first to last that would be amaze balls and maybe this can help some other people too. Thank You ;)

HUGE THANKS to cfs111 for setting up a full mod list and handling my idiocracy with modding.

You pretty much described them already. What is important is the the order they are loaded, but especially with skeleton, the resource priority it gets.

Load order and resource priority basics

If that is a problem for you (as it is for most), I would recommend moving to Mod Organizer - if you haven't already done so. Managing resource priorities is much easier and safer with it, although initially more troublesome.

Check out our pinned topics for bug fixes and modding information. I have gathered most relevant threads here.

Need is subjective.

Tools: LOOT, TES5Edit to clean your masters, probably Wrye Bash, and if not using the WS, I would seriously recommend MO over NMM.

Mods: At the core, SKSE, SkyUI (for MCM), the Unofficial Patches (be aware that USLEEP is in Beta and some mods may move over right away, others may never move over), ENB and ENBoost. Now, some mods have dependencies, and some don't. You don't necessarily need any more than the above.

Ok I understand but the whole point behind this thread is to have them all listed so I myself dont know it all but ex.
1.Unofficial ?
2.Unofficial ?
3.Unofficial ?
4.Unofficial ?
5.Race Menu
6.Race Menu Precache
7.FNIS
8.XP32
and so on
I tend to overwrite files I should not because I install in terrible order which in turn leads to the program asking if I would like to overwrite (blank) because (blank) already has that file.

I understand you need Loot etc. also but I asked for core mods not the loaders. Typing this even sounds rude so I have no doubt reading this may be the same way but I have no intention of being rude so If comes off that way im extremely sorry.

If you post the mods you want to use, I will teach you how to choose and install them properly. First, which modmanagement tool do you use, NMM or MO? If it is Workshop I can not help. Also, I use the Nexus only, I have a premium membership and I am used to it there so it is where I will work from.
List the mods you want this way
SkyUI 3863 (Nexus link is this nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/3863/? you can see where I got the number from)
Skyrim Flora Overhaul 141
etc.
Try to hold it to 10-20 mods.

Again I will gladly teach you the correct method, not do it for you. I will also need your system specs. Like this

FX9590 4.7 GHz 8 core
8GB RAM
Radeon R9 280x 3.5 GB VRam
Windows 10

List what tools you also already have, TES5Edit, Wrye Bash, LOOT, FNIS etc.

If this is what you want just post the info requested here. :steamhappy:

I use NMM as well as it gets updated regularly and is getting much better. I tend to go for immersive mods which is whu i have so much trouble. I use immersive armours, weapons, archery, hunterborn, dualsheath, and so on with immersive mods but using mods like dual sheath, heel extinsion, hdt physics, realistic ragdoll, and those mods need a certain mod order which i do not know I will get back to you with a real list but thats what you should base off for now thank you.

First, NMM is a beta and those routine updates are NOT necessarily a good thing. Just recently they hosed a bunch of people with an update. The last I used it, NMM resorted load order just by opening it. This is a terrible thing when you're less informed and therefore need a stable system with minimal effort. I would seriously suggest using Mod Organizer instead.

Your load order matters. For the most part, order of installation is not important unless one mod has or needs a patch for another mod. For example, Pure Water and Falskaar. If you install Pure Waters first, you'll need to reinstall it after you install Falskaar if you also want it to work in Falskaar. This is a simple example and there are MANY, MANY mods like this. Way too many for any of us to go through tens of thousands of mods and list them all. This is part of why your proposed list is so important.

Another reason your proposed list is important is because some mods may not be compatible with others. This can lead to mods that are not full functional but stable or it can make your game unplayable. Other mods have conditional installs. For instance, Civil War Overhaul and Requiem must be loaded before you start a new game and will be unstable to unplayable on pre-existing saves. Others, like Helgen Reborn, can't be started until AFTER you've been through Helgen at the beginning.

The mods you listed should be able to be installed in any order. This is NOT the same as load order. I think you're confusing the two. Load order is handled by LOOT. After you've downloaded and installed your mods, you run LOOT to sort them.

You really need, I think, to check out the threads Ilja linked to. You might also want to check out some beginner tutorials on mod installing.

Didn't take that as a rude. I posted the load order thread, because you mentioned overwriting wrong files in OP. I hoped it would get you along.

You also mentioned files being corrupted. Unless Skyrim especially tells you that file is corrupted, then that is not the case. Save crashing from load is not corrupted and can be perfectly playable. Is Skyrim really telling you that files are corrupted, or are they just crashing on load?

About essential mods: I think we covered them quite well in threads linked under Player Spreadsheet. My own "Small list of little big mods" and Nazenn's thread about dangerous mods should give quite good pointers. If you need something else, then just ask.

About XP32 Skeleton; the original file is getting really old. Groovtama made the extended XPMSE version from it. It is still under development and kept up to date. Groovtama, Fore (FNIS) and Expired (RaceMenu) tend to work together - more or less - so XPMSE would be a better choice than the original one. It is available in Nexus.

Like I said earlier I will build a list but I also have work to do ATM It should be up later tonight.
Mreisse Oct 18, 2015 @ 2:43pm
My suggestion is you definitely should use Mod Organizer. You will not have to care about install order and overwriting anything because MO puts them in virtual directories, and you can drag and drop the mods into the correct load order after they're installed. Plus MO profiles allow you to set up mods several ways and you can swap them out with a selection Dropbox. (I think NMM has profiles as well now, but I can't comment on how it works at all)

As for the unofficial patches, you need one for each part you have, even the hi res one. So, if you have only Dragonborn, you need the skyrim and Dragonborn patches

These are the mods I ussually install and some of them have the same files that overwrite one another making the game unplayable. And Yes I Use TES Edit etc. to check load order they are always fine its the order in which I install because some of these mods want to install the same named file somewhere and it breaks my game. I check for compatiibility etc. and they work together but since some want to install the same thing somewhere it just doesnt work/breaks. I usually install a lot but this list is somewhere around what I ussually have.
