Amren Troubles
I have a Misc. quest that I can't seem to complete or find any other information about it. Anyway, it says: Go to Amren in Whiterun and pick up the item.
Please help...

Yes it can, but not in all cases. I'm pretty sure the Amren Family Sword is one of them.

The sword is the quest he gives you, but if you're picking something up from him, it's probably a Radiant Quest. Most of the time those pick up quests come from Arniel Gane, I think. If Amren is dead, you will never be able to complete it. Check in the Hall of the Dead and see if his remains are there.

I did get one time one of those quest that I should pick up some ring from Ria. The problem was that she was killed by bandits/bear or something early in the game. She was on her way home. Did find her not far from the house that is next to Lakeview manor.
Did dismiss her in Falkreath and picked up Rayya. Did not find her until I did get the quest, followed the map marker and there she was dead and cold :(

@kdodds I actually found Amren later, I was just too lazy to search all over Whiterun to find wherever he went off to.
(Sorry about not replying sooner, I had weather related problems and couldn't access the internet.)

As Uncle suggested, why not try doing the Amren's Family Sword quest first, and see if that changes. He may just not talk to you about your other quest, until you do.

Approach him and, if it gives you the option, ask him what he and his wife were arguing about. He should mention his father's sword, and you can ask him if he needs help finding it. It's usually one of the common bandit hideouts.

I'm hoping, once you return the sword to him, it will change to allow you to pickup whatever you need to pickup. Also, returning his sword gives you a boost in both one-handed and shield.
