Purple (untextured) armor [SOLVED]
I'm fairly certain this is due to the GPU being bogged, no? It happened for the first and only time in the College of Winterhold. It was indoors, and during a blizzard. I recently installed Wet and Cold and pretty sure going with the 2k cloaks was maybe it. That or the snow/wet decals all over me maybe? The other mods I installed are Skymills and Skyfalls (shouldn't effect indoors) and HD Detailed Terrain (ditto).

Am I on the right track?

Chances are yes, if it were missing assets it would happen all the time with that armor. More than likely you ran out of VRAM. Normally I would post the usual guides, but seeing who OP is... Are you using ENBoost or have it set up if using a standard ENB preset?
Uncle64 Oct 8, 2015 @ 9:13pm
You are running out of V-ram as CFC111 says. It can come to if you are running low on normal memory to. If you will go near 3.8 limit (not sure about the limit)

I have the same issues in my other heavy modded profile. Save often and re load will do the trick.
kdodds Oct 8, 2015 @ 9:47pm
No, ENB and ENBoost are not installed, so no, no presets either. It's late, but tomorrow I'll try dumbing down Wet and Cold by removing the decals and see if that works.

Forgot to mention, this was in the Archmage's Chamber, which is pretty busy, and in the Arcaneum, also tons of different textures in use there as well. I swapped armor (okay I ran around in a loincloth) and went outside. Went back to inventory and the textures were there again, so definitely not missing assets.

And yeah, my modlist is getting a little heavy, especially for my GPU (675M).

No that is not that heavy.
But you can actually remove the Hi res pack. It drags your fps down.
You have SMIM already.

I do remember that Wet and Cold are script intense. I have stopped to use that.

Hi res ain't the issue, armour mod clash here or clothing.
SMIMs fixes static features that are miscoloured.

It's not a mod conflict as far as I can tell since the armor WILL reappear once I move out of the area. It's also random pieces, which you would not expect with a conflict. A conflict would be consistent, or at least somewhat so.

SMIM modifies the static models AND includes new textures.

HiRes pack being textures, any other textures that are used in their place means the HiRes textures aren't loaded/used/seen, so I don't think removing it will do anything except make the ones that aren't replaced ugly. Yeah, it may make more room in VRAM, but I'd rather try to do that with decal (or other mod removal) first.

Did some research this morning and it appears that there are two (main anyway) reasons for the purple textures:

1. You simply don't have the texture. It's missing, so it can never show. This is usually due to conflicting mods or deleted assets. Fix: find the conflict or redownload the mod.

2. Running out of VRAM. Your GPU just doesn't have enough VRAM to handle the loading of textures, meshes, and effects for the area. Repeatable in the area, may not be repeatable per asset. This is exactly what's happening to me, so I'm going to try fiddling with Wet and Cold and see what happens.
cfs111 Oct 9, 2015 @ 7:23am
With my last big texture heavy mod list I had my VRAM usage at 95-98% utilization. I'm sure if I would have added 1 more texture I would have had your issue. Maybe you are at the end of what your GPU can handle? Sucks, but....

I think you are running in to.

2. You are running out of V-Ram. I have the same error some times. It can be annoying.

Do you like me have only 1 gig of V-ram on your GPU?

You can use Skyrim Performace monitor and check what you have left of your V-ram.

Yeah, I think I'm about at max.

The 675M is 2GB. For what it is, it's a kick ass card for it's age and application. Vanilla runs ultra in 3D on it, no problem. I kicked out the 3D a while ago because I couldn't play more than an hour or so without getting a headache, but is probably the single most awesome way to play Skyrim, better than any ENB or graphics improvements.

Any idea whether installing ENB and ENBoost will help with VRAM usage (without loading presets, without ENB on)?
Uncle64 Oct 9, 2015 @ 8:14am
I play whithout ENB, but set my settings like this instead on Ultra.
Seems to work fine.

Sort of solved. It's definitely the VRAM limitation. Disabling some mod options and the textures appear. Also, in these areas, flushing VRAM will resolve the issue. Look like it's time for an upgrade.
kdodds Oct 10, 2015 @ 1:35pm
Yeah <sigh> I know. I'm actually looking at stepping up even more than that, dual 8GB 980Ms SLI. Still the game itself has its limits.
Uncle64 Oct 10, 2015 @ 2:02pm
It would be nice if the game can use the memory you actually have in your system.
kdodds Oct 10, 2015 @ 2:33pm
It would need to be 64bit. Crazier patches have happened, but I'm not holding my breath. You're talking about a Skyrim.exe replacer, so it technically wouldn't be legal, I don't think, either.
