Items saying they are 'Quest Items' [SOLVED]
There are some item which say they are quest items even though they are not and I know 100%. This then disables me from droping, selling or enchanting them.
The only way I have been able to get around this is using the console to remove and add again however this is not ideal for enchanted item's which I want to disenchant.
It is time for me to find an actual fix for this; please can someone explain why this happens and or give me a fix.

Just randon items you pick up while looting are being labled as "Quest Items"? Are you running any mods that alter your inventory menu or any menu for that matter?
Eternie Apr 13, 2016 @ 3:06pm
At times you may pick up an item which is a part of a quest you haven't been given yet. So that you don't lose it it cannot be dropped or gotten rid of (without console commands).

You can either ignore them, or if the extra weight is an issue you can drop them using a console command.

The simplest solution is google the items name putting UESP into your search
Find what quest it relates to.
Do the quest that will then should take the item from your inventory.

Eternie has a point. I currently have three items in my inventory that are not related to any quest I currently have, but they are quest items. I know from past playthroughs what quests they are for and I just hold onto them until I'm ready to do said quest.

I thought that all quest items were weightless until quest is completed?

How are you 100% sure the item(s) are not quest related? Have you done a wiki search? Have you completed every quest in the game?

Be careful not to permanently remove or alter one of those items because when you later get the quest relating to them it may be non-completeable. That surely isn't a word...

he item in question is probably part of a quest that, at least, hasn't been marked as "cleared" to the game's full satisfaction. I've had this before with a Staff of Charming. I wound up with 6 of them, undroppable, in my inventory. To my delight, I dicovered that they were actually placeable in Hearthfire home weapons racks.

edit: this did not change their status as quest items, just got them out of inventory.

Didn't notice the OP was the same in both threads. I think we can call that other thread [SOLVED], if not REsolved. Even if not the same save, propensity is there.

@mpd1958 You are correct of course quest items are weightless!

I always assumed the Elder scroll and Black books had weight but doing more reading on the matter suggests that they don't actually weigh anything. Even if inventory seems to give 20 to the elder scrolls and 1 each per black book.

See even after years of playing you can still find out something new!

I have gone through the Wiki's and some of the items which say they are Quest Items are mods (I have used on other profiles and worked fine)

Yes it is, they both are on the same profile.
After playing Skyrim, this is the first that this and the other thing has ever happened.

@iHEX if you tell us the names of your quest items that you say aren't quest items we may be able to help you further. Wether they come from mods or not ... someone out here may know!

A Silver Ring
Silencers Gear
Black Sacrament (The dagger and sword) and Barette (sneaking one)
An Amulet of Talos

I believe these are the only ones, however sometimes new items which I have has for a while gains the tag of being a 'Quest Item'.
Eternie Apr 15, 2016 @ 4:49pm
If you do google searches for each of them looking for quest item glitches / fixes
You may find more answers.

The Amulet of Talos can be a quest item.
Googling "amulet of talos quest item fix" leads to 2 quests http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Amulet_of_Talos

Return to grace after beheading of Roggvir
And also Search and seizure getting Ogmonds Amulet
So you may have to complete both of those quests to be able to drop your amulet.

The other items will probably be listed as quest item by mods you have installed / or had installed and removed but scripts like these don't get removed as easily in a playthrough.
