(SOLVED) Skyrim Freezing/Crashing
Hey, so my Skyrim keeps crashing and when it crashes the video freezes while the audio continues for about 3 – 5 seconds then all you hear is a buzzing sound. The computer becomes completely unresponsive and I have to hard reset. This is happening on a completely vanilla skyrim. The crashing is completely random, usually happens after about 5 minutes of gameplay but sometimes I can get in about an hour of gameplay before it crashes.

So far I have tried:

Reinstalling steam and skyrim
Reinstalling windows
Lowering graphics settings
Windowed mode
Checking for overheating
The skse memory patch
The ENBoost patch
The unofficial skyrim patch (added the high textures DLC to try this)
Using Skyrim Performance Monitor to check that its not a VRAM issue
Compatibility mode (tried from windows XP till 8.1)
Everything on this guide by cfs111 (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=500687692)

I’m pretty sure it’s not hardware related as all my other games work perfectly fine (Dota 2, BF4 and a bunch of others)

My specs:

Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (10.0, Build 15063)

Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2130 CPU @ 3.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.4GHz

8192MB RAM

AMD Radeon R7 200 Series

DirectX Version: DirectX 12

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

No I do not have any mods, but I have tried installing SKSE for the memory fix to see if it would help. The crashes continue even with the memory fix. I removed it since it made no difference.

Wonder if the OP has LE (all DLC) and should use USLEEP.

I only have the base Skyrim game with none of the DLC. Was planning on getting the DLC but I first want the base game to work properly.

The event viewer shows no game crash event, only that the system has shutdown unexpectedly.

Odd. Let's see if we can't help you.

Follow the following steps carefully and we'll see if it works or not.

1. Download Crash Fixes by meh321 here: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/72725/?

2. Open the download. Continue opening files within the download until you get to three files that all say CrashFixPlugin.

3. Open your SKSE Plugins folder. This should be located in Steam/Steamapps/Common/Skyrim/Data/SKSE.

4. Place all files labled CrashFixPlugin into the Plugins folder in the SKSE folder.

5. Open the file labled CrashFixPlugin.ini in the Plugins folder.

6. Look for something called "UseOSAllocators". Make sure the number is set to 1 and not 0.

7. Download SKSE Plugin Preloader by meh321 and sheson here: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/75795/?tab=2&navtag=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fskyrim%2Fajax%2Fmodfiles%2F%3Fid%3D75795&pUp=1

8. Place the files within the download into your Skyrim root directory located in Steam/Steamapps/Common/Skyrim.

Boot game and see if there's any crashes. Good luck.

EDIT: Just realized this was two months ago. OP, you still having trouble?

Thanks for this, but I did manage to get it to run properly. Turns out downclocking my GPU solved my skyrim issues. Odd as I only need to downclock for Skyrim, all other games work fine. Realise I should have marked this as solved a month ago when I got it to work, but thanks for this anyway!

Did you use Amd setting and auto overclock?
And let the system clock it self instead of setting any value. Only put it on auto.
That part did work for me on my HD7850.

Ah, alright, glad you got it working. And thanks for mentioning how you fixed it. That will help those that are researching ways to fix their Skyrim.

Ok so I realize that it's been another 3 years but, I'm having the freezing problem and then when I shutdown my computer to fix it the computer loads and shows in white text on a Black background that says there is no media present or something. I'm on my phone rn but when I get a chance ill give more specific details.
It would be awesome if anyone could guide me on how to fix this.
