Mods and crash fixes and overwrite files
I've had a few issues with Skyrim, and I went looking for answers on how to correct them. Really standard stuff; black screens, desktop crashes, that sort of thing. When I went searching, most answers were from 2011 (of course, I'm late to the game) and involve things like adding a file to a .dll if it's an AMD/ATI graphics card to installing some Unoffical Skyrim Patch.

I enjoy the game, when it runs, it runs beautifully. Even when it errors out, it's never particularly heartbreaking for me, since I'm rather casual about playing. I've started and restarted so many times trying different character builds, and I've yet to get past level 40. I'm just having fun with the game.

So, my questions is this...do I need these file fixes? If I do, I can't seem to find them anywhere in the Steam workshop. In particular, this Unoffical Skyrim Patch that does something to allocate more memory to the game so it runs smoother and/or crashes less. Do I need something for this AMD Radeon HD 8330 graphics card? I run the game on medium settings, since that seems to be when it crashes less frequently, but if my PC could handle it, I'd love to run it on high settings.

On the note on mods, I've seen quite a few people talking about something like the Better Looking People mod and when I've lloked around all I find is some mod that is all in Russian or Greek or possibly Latin or WinDings. Are there mods that are in English that you might suggest?

Thanks for any and all help and answers.

Unofficial Skyrim Patch - or in your case Unofficial Legendary Edition Patch (USLEEP), seeing that you have all DLCs - is not there to fix memory allocation. It is there to fix bugs and oversights from the game.

Bethesda left in plenty of bugs. Their effect to gameplay depends on playing style and luck. They fixed all obvious game breaking bugs, but left in issues that may develop to game breaking bugs. This is why every player isn't using USKP or USLEEP. They haven't needed it. However, I do recommend everyone to have it, because game causes save bloat issues and script loops, which may progress in to serious issues, even if you would avoid situations where glitches develop actual bugs.

For memory allocation:
  • SKSE memory tweak, which allows game to allocate more memory to initial processes, fighting against extended or infinite loading screens and crashes to desktop from load events. Fix requires Skyrim Script Extender (SKSE) and creating a configuration file for it, as presented here.

  • ENBoost is another fix that works with (or without) SKSE memory tweak. It allows game to reallocate memory between VRAM and RAM through enbhost.exe. This way game has less VRAM spikes and also less change of crashing from VRAM getting full. You can find instructions for that from Avrie's guide, under relevant chapter.

For your last question: USLEEP link points to Nexus Mods. You can find what ever you were after from there.

The sign-in page to Nexus can be a bit misleading though. Site is free, but sign-in page lists all optional paid membership accounts first. Scroll past without selecting any of them and create the account. Nexus does not spam your e-mail with ads or offers. It relies on site ads and members willing to pay supporter/premium membership accounts for them - like I do.

For more modding information, see this pinned topic. Everything above is linked to it, so you can always find them from the thread that is added to top of this forum page.
