[Spoiler] Ancient tablet
So, I had it in my inventory for ages and all it did (after I decided to keep it and not sell it) was giving me positive perks and removing negative ones. I destroyed it after all, since that looked like cheating. Was it working as intended or did it bug out? Or was there a reason to keep it till the endgame?

All praise to the almighty Tablet of buffs.

I'm sure nothing bad whatsoever will ever happen by keeping it close... and any crew member that beg to differ will be thrown into space from the nearest airlock.

AKA as far I know it's working as intended.

The one quest it can throw up will often kill a crew member.

Welp, quite strange then. And quite sad that I got rid of it :(

It can trigger that deranged crew member event according to an above commenter where if you fail at least one of the two aptitude challenges it will end in that crewmate being killed. Failing first one gives you wounded attribute as well as that crewmate dying.

So it's essentially a gamble. You'll periodically gain positive attributes, but, you run risk of a crewmate dying.

And the crew do play an important role. Arguably more so then positive attributes do.

save scum if bad event happens, can't remember the max bonus it gives but when you max out you can get rid of it

Even when you manage to win both aptitude challanges your crew member vanishes from your ship. So you will loose em.

Indeed, that part of the tablet chain quest seems messed up.
Choosing the skill checks and succeeding ; text says the crew is safe, but actual result is death ;
Not choosing the skill checks or failing them : text says crew dies but actual result still alive !

Could you give us more information? In what event is happening that?

EDIT: We have found some errors in the event in which a crew member attacks the Captain, they will be fixed with the next patch.

So just for clarity sake is this NOT supposed to be a guaranteed death or IS? Cause I just had an event with a crew member trying to attack me after sabotaging engines, demanding I tell them where "it" is, which I assume is the tablet. I tackled them w/ a successful roll (the other option was to draw the weapon and I assume shoot) but they still died?

Or was this not fixed in the patch on the 19th?

Yes, you'll lose that crew member. If you don't shoot them, you will expel them from the ship in another text.

Yeah that's not what was happening with me as of yesterday at least. Every single conversation path I tried led to a final pane saying the crew member died and that the crew would "handle it" (I think they referenced a burial or something).

Is this a Dead space easter egg? loved that game.

Will keep that Tablet for now, Is the deranged looter important in some way? does help in some way later on? cause I save scummed and split up my crew to search the ship and got 3 grenade launchers but the looter was killed instead.

Also, I'm brand new to the game, is the ship that you find the tablet on a model that you can captain in the game by chance? I like the look of it.

It seems a shame that theres no option to keep that ship also given that it was undamaged and had power, even an option to like tow it to nearest station to sell would be nice.

What, so all choices and all roll results lead to the same outcome? Why even have aptitude rolls in that scene if they make no difference?

They make difference, you'll lose the crew member, but you can also be injured or gain other attributes depending on the choices.
