Servers are running for 12 years straight if I am correct. Name another game that has official servers running for 12 years (UPDATE: this is an intentional exaggeration, of course).

No in-app purchases. Only pure skills to win the race.

Works great on a toaster PC from 2003 ranging all the way to MacBook Pro 16" on Bootcamp.

TrackMania's community is small, but very active & enthusiastic.

NOTE FOR BUYERS: The Steam version has a bug where all textures are rendered in low resolution no matter what you do, there are different fixes for this on the web, but not all of them work for everyone. This is because the Steam version is a bad distro of version 2.11.25 (the latest one is 2.11.26). They never bothered to fix this after all these years. However, there is a very easy solution that is not only the best, but guaranteed to work for everyone:

1) Buy the Steam version, but don't download it.
2) Download the official standalone installer (it comes already updated to 2.11.26): http://files.trackmaniaforever.com/tmunitedforever_setup.exe
3) Install the standalone version.
4) Run the game and when asked for the key, input or paste the one provided in your Steam copy (CD Key).
5) Enjoy.

While this won't count your playtime in Steam, you get a fully working version of the game. In any case, if you want your playtime to count, you could copy the files of the standalone version over the files of the Steam version (after downloading it) and it should work.

As for the game itself, there isn't much to say, it is the best TrackMania game, There are 7 different environments, each with their own specific car and physics, providing the maximum amount of variety in the whole TrackMania series. The physics are very consistent, you eventually learn and become able to predict how your car will behave in any specific situation, meaning you pretty much become the car itself.

People don't play this online as much as in the past, most play the Nations Forever portion of the game which is free and is basically a demo of this game (Stadium environment only). But in my opinion, it is worth it for the single player campaigns alone, as well as the infinite replay value in being able to create and race on your own tracks. You can also download tracks, cars and skins other players have made. There is something for everyone in this game.

Edit*: ok, I didn't knew this review would get such popularity and approval, so... I actually forgot two very important things from this game that sums up with the other items I said up above. So here it goes:

Seven (sete, siete, sieben, sette, sept, zeven) different environments and no f*cking collisions.
Seriously, what could you possibly want MORE from this game?

An unfortunately often overlooked game that has an extreme amount of respect from it's players but not a shred of acknowledgement from the rest of the world.

I don't think this game got any hype at all, really. Which is a damn shame, seeing as how much hours people have put into this and the fact that the community of veterans has somehow managed to stay alive and well after all of these years.

I got the original Trackmania (The original) game out of a cereal box. And if I didn't, I bet I would have never touched the series. Out of sheer awe from the quality of the game, I bought Trackmania: Sunrise Xtreme off of Ebay years later. And now, I found that there was a steam version of the game, Trackmania: United Forever, which luckily enough, is a full-functioning combination of everything in the Original TM and Sunrise Xtreme TM into one super-game with content updated for both games and new content for both to officially mash the two together on an updated playfield.

For people new to the series, Trackmania is mostly a racing game. HOWEVER.

• You build your own tracks with the exact same advanced freedom the developers had when they made the standard tracks
  
• The races are non-contact and are purely for who can get the best time
  
• A lot of the game is directed towards break-neck stunts and mile-long jumps that require extreme precision to complete flawlessly
  
• The game has multiplayer that is cleverly designed to have the players race together but remove the effects of lag, competition and griefing by simply using non-contact 'ghost' style races and stunt events
  
• As a map builder you can concentrate just as much on making the map beautiful and realistic as well as concentrate on somehow making a single ramp send the player from one end of the map to the other

While being a game with a lot of features for multiplayer, the game definitely accomodates for the offline community as well. And being that the races are a 'ghost' style event, you don't have to worry about poor AI opponents or finding other people to play with as the people's races on the same course are recorded to be your 'ghost' opponent. In fact, you can turn off the 'ghost' opponent entirely and just race against your own time if that's how you want to go.

The only time I ever have a problem with the game's community is when I find myself forced to play somebody's extreme track that takes half an hour to complete because some people are certain their creations are the s**t.

Please, give this game a chance. Please.

This is for all of you who are lost and don't know which game to get and which game is what and how it all works.
This is kind of a comparison between this game and the new ones giving you an idea what each game offers.



I'd say this is the ultimate version of Trackmania. Has ALL content from previous games and MORE. Including stuff other than tracks. Does not include content from newer titles which means all of Trackmania 2 Enviroments and Trackmania Turbo.

(Trackmania Turbo and Trackmania 2 have same enviroments but Trackmania 2 sells them seperate and they have standard visuals while Trackmania Turbo has that arcady twist on visuals, worse track editor and no Dedimania)

It has dated graphics while Trackmania 2 and Turbo have amazing visuals for their time which look very good today and get updated. Trackmania United forever however does not recieve updates. TMUF also doesn't have the new Lagoon, Canyon and Valley enviroments which are in Tm2 and Tm Turbo. But it does have the Stadium one which all of Trackmania games on steam have.

TMUF enviroments: Stadium, Island, Coast, Bay, Rally, Desert & Snow

TMUF Stadium enviroment has normal tracks like other enviroments but also has all tracks from the free 2 play Trackmania Nations.
TMUF also had an update which added "Star" tracks for all enviroments which makes this game have the most content out of all TrackMania games by far.


Trackmania 2 and Turbo enviroments: Stadium, Canyon, Valley & Lagoon

These verions have completely new tracks excluding the ones from all previous titles and also have completely diffrent tracks from eachother.


Let me describe the TM2 & TM Turbo enviroments using enviroments from TMUF:

Stadium speaks for itself. It's the same exact thing with better graphics, slightly different visuals (example: boost now makes blue fire come out of your exhaust) and a few textures changed (other than being higher resolution obviously).

Canyon is a mixture of desert, island and coast.
It has a Desert-ish enviroment.
Cars can tip over sometims like in Desert even though they look like badass muscle cars.
It's mostly about precise drifting which makes it comparable to Coast but in this case it's at very high speeds, the drifting is very controllable and precise compared to Coast.
And last but not least it's comparable to Island because it can have very high speed tracks that make you go over huge distances in a short time, huge ramps, jumps, loops etc.

Valley is like a spiritual successor to rally but it's much more engaging, beautiful and harder.
Similar types of track but driving on the road has much more understeer, dirt makes you drift and oversteer. It also has mud/water roads which slow you down.

Lagoon is like Bay + Island.
High speeds, very controllable and grippy cars. Very similar enviroment to Bay but it also has magnetic tracks.
