"Network check" Not Doing Anything (Solved)
I just bought TM Forever and all day I've been trying to play it. However, I can't even get the game to start. Whenever I try to run it, all that comes up is a network check. It says this:

"TmForever allows you to create internet games and exchange data with other players (peer to peer). We're now checking your network connection, so that you can configure your firewall."

It just stays like this for hours and won't do anything. I've tried disabling my firewall altogether, but that's still no help. I have no idea what to do; does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get past this stupid thing and actually play the game?

Check the Windows Internet settings and eventually reset them to default settings.

Do you know how I would go about doing that? I'm running windows 7.

I don't use Windows 7 anymore. It should be in the Control Panel. There either with the "Internet".
Or, if you have Internet Explorer, you might be able to access the settings there.

I found those options, but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do within there to reset all my internet settings to default.

Well, there should be a corresponding button ("Reset settings" or similar).
In Windows 10 I just found it in the "Advanced" tab -> reset settings of Internet Explorer (or similar)

Alright, I found out how to do it through the command prompt, but it seems that it didn't work. The network check is still present and still stopping me from playing the game. Is there anything else I can try?

If the network check always appears then this means that Maniaplanet was not able to pass through the firewall.
Try to launch it with administrator priviledges.

Also, do not start any network aware applications, or close them if you have some download / chat / server management or other tools running, and wait ~5 minutes to allow the TCP/IP stacks to shut down properly.

Which anti-virus software are you using?

I closed all background network applications and launched the game with administrator priviledges, but the same thing keeps happening. I use avast for anti-virus, but it recognizes Trackmania United as a game and says that it allows it to run. Windows firewall also says it allows United to run.

I've had Trackmania Nations Forever for a while now; do you think that has anything to do with it if the problem is with maniaplanet? Nations works just fine.

Sorry about the confusion with Maniaplanet.
Actually all three games use same or similar methods and ports, they use the Windows Internet connection interfaces.
I know from the past that many users with Avast reported issues. The configuration of Avast seems to be tricky.

You're right! This whole problem was being caused by Avast. I uninstalled it, ran United, re-installed it, and everything is working great now. Thank you so much for your help!

Great, enjoy the game :)
