combat wont start
I am in the mid-late game and it seems I wont be able to play any further.
When encountering ambushes on the world map I get to choose to use a skill or to prepare for battle. No matter what I do, once the battle map is loaded, combat wont start. I can shoot all the enmys or walk around ignoring them. Combat wont start and so I cant leave the area.
I have tried to drive in different directions: all ambush encounters lead to the same (sad) result)
I have reinstalled the game: same result.
I have read about other people having similar problems, but never found a solution.
Anyone who can help me on this?

The same problem seems to bother others as well and it hasnt been fixes for over a year.
Anyone know a workaround?

Same problem here, it started happening after i visited the abandoned oil well with those kids in it. Game is literally unplayable now, since every encounter forces a reload to a previous save. (combat won't start, and thus it won't end either - providing me with no exit from the "encounter area")

This should be fixed with extreme priority - critical game breaking bug.

I would have to advise against buying this game until this encounter bug is fixed - game literally unplayable because of this.

found this in the latest patch notes:

"Fixed an issue that caused the Chain Ambush perk to cause combat to lock up under certain circumstances."

Could this be what is causing this? If that is the case, the bug isn't fixed at all.

While this thread is already old I had the exact same problem recently when I started an encounter on the world map (scorpitron). After several unsuccessful tries to solve this I opened a ticket at the InXile helpdesk. They told me to reduce the number of cores the game uses to the first four.

If you do not know how to do this: start Wasteland 3 and afterwards open the task manager. Go to the details tab. Find wl3.exe --> right click --> set affinity and uncheck every core except the first four. Then load your save and try again.

In my case that did not help either. But - for whatever reason - if I use the LAST four cores the encounter with the scorpitron actually loads successfully and the combat begins. My cpu is an i7-14700k.

Maybe this helps if you make the same annoying experience.

Confirm this works for my i9-14900k.
Only last 4 cores were selected. Encounter combat worked.
Though my fps was terrible. I suspect the last few are efficient cores haha.

Did you try both first 4 cores and last 4 cores? For me the scorpitron encounter worked with the last 4, but another world encounter didn't work when I selected whatever skill check option to have the advantage, but then it worked when I chose the non skill check option and allowed the enemy to have first turn (still using last 4 cores checked).
