[Bug] Dismissed Animal Companions Disappear (Major Tomcat, Polly, ...)

I want to dismiss Major Tomcat and Polly at Ranger HQ, because I have reached an advanced level and don't want them to die in combat. I basically want to make a menagerie of sorts for my furred and feathered friends.

The only problem is that they are nowhere to be found when you return to the map...

Is anybody else having this problem? Does anybody know of a workaround? Is there an area where they can be dismissed and not disappear?

Nope, if you dismiss an animal and leave the map they're gone sorry :v

... "fun" fact, that happens with the Cyborg Chickens as well if you don't bring them to the coop, if you take them with you, than dismiss them for any reason (because you don't want them to rush the millionth kamikaze enemy for example), and load the game without them in the party they will be gone from the game, forever, utterly braking the quests that I assume involves gathering all of them.

They are supposed to just stay where you left them. It allegedly works on console according to this guide [attackofthefanboy.com], so I suppose it is a bug on PC.
