Bugs I have encountered in today's session alone
I see a lot of b/s posts from fanbois talking about bug levels and playability... I've been a Wasteland fan since the original, did a playthrough on a C-64 and one on a laptop the size of a dumpster.

Speaking of dumpsters, the game in co-op is a dumpsterfire.

I love the game, love the series, but I bought two copies of this unlabled Early-Access :shit: show specifically for co-op play, and while I am not going to give it a bad review I do need to unload about some of this trash...

(As stated in the title, this is just what I/we experienced today, not every bug this game has to offer and certainly not every inconsistent design decision or balance issue, or even just nitpicks like the Desert Eagle "large cartridge" pistol using 9mm ammo...)

-Field stripping does nothing. No scrap, no mods (with perk), just deletes the weapon. Host tries, client tries, 30 weapons, 0 scrap, 0 mods. Pretty cool, and permanently repeatable.

- The initiative/turn jankfest is breathtaking, and easily the most consistent source of head-scratching and frustration. You get the drop on someone and initiate a fight? Maybe. Maybe one of your people will get a turn with 20% AP, maybe the other player won't get a turn for two entire rounds. MAYBE you'll have 2 characters that can actually act during your partner's turn! It's a surprise! (Except for the enemy, they will always all get to go, obviously). I get it that you can't have a real-time explore/turn-based combat game where the player basically gets the advantage of surprise on every combat, but either be consistent in the application of initiative or enable the option to show whatever rolls are happening. The complete turn-skips are just bugs pure and simple, and the Force-Dialogue-into-full-surprise-attack is as trash as the hamfisted use of idiotic kamikaze mechanics.

- Sometimes you get a cool 0 AP turn... where the game says it's your turn, but none of your characters have any AP. Slick!

- Having the APC selected in combat and clicking on the portrait of another character results in that character getting an 7.62 minigun enema. Excellent UI work.

- Animal companions still don't enter combat unless the stars are aligned and they feel like it. Instead, watch as your companion sits inside the fire (outside of combat) ticking away damage in real time while everything else is stuck in turn based. Vaya con dios, Waste Wolf.

- Fires still 100% ignite anyone that walks *near* the fire... extra cool on top of the lack of any stop drop and roll mechanic... or,, really any option outside of just stand there and burn until it wears off. Neat.

- Cyborg eye laser doesn't trigger Leadership multi-kill bonus

- Vehicle/APC/Truck (overland conveyance) shows damaged to Co-op client no matter the actual condition. (Every fight, for me, the truck has 250/1500 HP, will "die" in one hit, but is still fine on my wife's screen - good, since she controls is/has the mechanic in her group)

- AP Cost reduction of level 10 Brawling perk not reflected on UI

- *edit* Fumers resist entire Uruk-hai sized crossbow bolt because the weapon (that has a 15% chance to ignite) is treated as 100% fire damage (which it is not) and is therefore 100% resisted by enemies immune to fire (I am guessing, but definitely Fumers)

This would be expected in an Early Access title, not a full-release heading into 10 months ago real soon here... that has the stones to retail for $60.

/rant

I am now going to help my wife shut down Vic Buchanan's b/s, game pisses me off, but I do love it.

I just finished a play-through not too long ago, and while there was definitely some minor bugs nothing that really took away from my enjoyment of the game. I do agree with some of the points you made above, I noticed some of those as well, especially regarding pets and not attacking in battle and just displaying all kinds of quirkiness. I'm hoping patch 1.4 addresses this. I played on supreme jerk difficulty, where annoying bugs (especially combat bugs) are magnified due to the lethality of combat, and I honestly never got anything that really hindered my experience.

That said, I played single player and not co-op. From what it looks like from reading these boards, the chance of running into bugs while playing co-op is much higher than in the single play-through.

That was my assumption as well... it may be more of a "what the engine will allow for" rather than a ground-upward multiplayer build.

I should have added to my diatribe that I would much rather have a co-op dumpsterfire than no co-op at all :P

Finished the game in single player with pretty much no issues at all.
Doing a second run in co-op and we're getting bugs and errors like it's an alpha build. Last Four sessions lasted no longer than 15 minutes apiece due to crashes and other problems. Since I paid for my friend's copy (as a gift) I've now spent 120€ on a game that is, let's face it, barely playable in co-op. Hoping that the DLC ships with some very needed bugfixes. Fingers crossed!

I finished the game in coop with my husband quite a bit of time ago and encountered most of the bugs you enumerated as well (plus some other ones you did not mention ;)).

I have a "fix" for most of the aspects of the initiative bugs, if you want to use it. And the fix is: the host has to always be the one to start the fight. And that's it. If the guests starts the fight, the host's turn is basically skipped (that's why the 0 AP crap). If the AI starts the fight, some strange magic happens and mostly host and guest turns are skipped but you may end up with some characters having some AP (because of initiative). If host starts the fight, all is well. Mostly ;).

This is sadly not really a bug but sillily programmed behaviour. The turn order is basically fixed and always has to go host-guest-ai. So, if you upset the dev given balance :lunar2019laughingpig: and do something 'silly' like have co-op guest start a fight, the system takes its revenge on you.

I played single player only and I had quite some bugs, but most of them were not that bad tho. Like visual bugs (there are quite many of them) like chests/doors shown as closed, that are actually open and you can walk right through them. The flame thrower not showing the animation properly or characters moving without walking animation. I knew coop was a mess when I bought the game, because of the reviews adressing it. It is sad, that game companies throw unfinished products on the market.

Characters moving in combat without animation and just kind of floating to their destination spot is another very common bug, even in single player. However, I wouldn't consider that a serious bug. Just one of those things would be nice to have it fixed just to improve overall "polish", but not a huge deal.

Jesus... is this game STILL a buggy mess? I am reading these posts and almost everyone comments on how much of a mess it still is. The game has been out for over a year, I have delayed getting it for that long since it sounds like this is the same crap from Wasteland 2.

Is there any hope at all of this getting better?

It's fine to pick up now, as long as you don't plan on playing co-op. The single player experience has only minor, superficial bugs and I didn't run into anything serious in my 70+ hour play-through.

I didn't get it at release either, even though it was one of my most anticipated games, as I didn't want to deal with a ton of bugs, but I can honestly say after playing it recently, the single player experience is in pretty good shape.
