Flamethrowers?
Does anyone use them often? In 6 play through's I have rarely used them due to short range. I find shotguns a bit more deadly even with their short range.

Damage is pretty meh, plus range is meh. Since enemies are scaling with your level, you will never have good kill time vs them as flamethrower. Also hits only once, so not much chance to crit.

Minigun is the best Big Guns weapon. Easy to obtain too - just go to Massacre Site asap and save/load until you get it from dig sites around zone.

Im trying SJ level without a BG ranger and with 3 snipers, a melee, Kwon and a Small Arms leader. It is challenging. The only real advantage I see is that the have a wide arc of fire and
with burning it's damage over time as well as helping the melee with his first perc.

3 snipers is too bad, you will drain through ammo too fast - and probably will have no money to buy such amounts.

2 snipers is good.
I am currently playing SJ at endgame (last location) and I have 1 sniper with standard Sniper Rifles/Explosives/Lockpicking (rifle converted to Explosive damage) - he is also using Mortar Blast with rockets.
And another Sniper Rifles/Weird Science/Mechanics/Toster repair sniper with Energy sniper rifle (early game you can get Mega Scope rifle pretty fast, and it's amazing till late 21-23lvl energy sniper rifles) - he is using Energy cells as ammo.
Both max Intelligence for max skill points.

Kwon I am using as SMG, and Lucia is pistol\shotgun - using Trick Shot to charge Strike ability, then use it with shotgun (coz it can't miss this way)
Both max Intelligence for max skill points - Kwon for Automatic wep/Leadership/Kiss A## and Lucia for Small wep/Hard A##/Barter/Survival.

Melee is dodge tank - standard 10 Speed, Mopey Poet, Bop Bag, Evasion perk + Tarjan token evasion buff (Precognition), plus evasion armor mod for pants and Murdercross Helmet.
Bladed weapon in 1 hand, Glass knucks in another (only switch to them when you are running to someone)
While the tank has 66% Evasion, enemies will quite often hit it.
Kinda feels like cheating on enemy side, but I don't mind - not fighting them fair either.
Skills are Melee Weapons and First aid.
I took some Animal whisperer at first, but found pets too annoying (and nerfed) to be useful.
Generally, that can be said about all followers in this game - they will also steal kills (and experience) very often.

Last member is Big Guns - 7 in Awareness to spot things (max it second), max Intelligence for skills and some Coordination.
Skills are Big Guns/Sneaky Sh##/Nerd stuff.

I also have dedicated Weapon/Armor modding crafter at ranger HQ, to not waste party's priceless skill points on such skills.

Generally speaking, from my experience on SJ - if you will run into enemies, you will have a hard time.
Let enemies run to you - start most fights with tank, and run with him back to other squad members.
Ambushes on map is another story - but I use car there to run enemies over, or to buy time while squad gets into positions.

Also I try to avoid spending all skill points right away, and usually only spend them to pass a skill check or to equip a weapon. You can always go to main menu and reload, put skill points and pass skill check.

I tried the sniper set up as mentioned in a Walk through on Neoseeker iirc. That used 4 sniper build.
Deo, Yes in early game I was having to buy ammo or make it. But Im also playing with prospector quirk and do spam save on digs, so it wasnt too hard. My first dozen levels saw me die a lot, but now Im able to one shot or take to low health most random encounters.
I agree the best option is to cover and ambush mobs as they run to you whenever possible. NOTE I am playing this game with friendly fire off. Next SJ Ill play with it on and will not have 2 snipers at the very start.
I agree pets can be a pain, but I do like playing with them. I actually have AW on most of my characters so that I can charm animal, have the bonus and then with the animal put the ranger in storage at HQ. This will preserve the bonus when recalling the ranger without the pet. I discussed this in a post elsewhere.
I tried playing with a dedicated crafting as well as a barter ranger at HQ but don't like being without a weapons mod in the field.

Thanks for a detailed response.

Thanks
