Combat Shooting AND Cybernetics [spoilers]
So I have searched on here and reddit, and due to patches its unclear whether this was once possible or is still possible.

The advised route is;

1) Get to Machine Commune
2) choose correct dialogue with Tinker - get her to go outside the commune
3) get judged by the commune before killing Tinker
4) complete wolfies quest, get skillbook
5) go back to buy cybernetics
* its unclear if in the current patch the cyber merchant will still talk to you...

Can anyone advise if its still possible? Im aware he doesnt talk to you if you are judged negatively / wolfie doesnt reward the book if you bought implant setup kits.

Sounds like it would work. That said, the cybernetics are really just a special type of Utility item, and the good ones only really help melee-focused characters. If you have like 2 or more team members that want the cybernetics, it's probably worth doing. If your whole team is shooters, I say just clear the Machine Commune map on general principles. All the robots and synths in the world were built by Cochise, as far as we know, and they can all be subjugated to it's will, if it ever returns, based on what we saw in Wasteland and Wasteland 2.

That will work so long as you do not finish the mission to steal or move the Reagan AI.
Once you double cross the Commune you will never be able to trade with them again. I even got Neutral rep after the double cross and they still refused.

It doesn't work like that, because when you get combat shooting, vivisector refuses to talk to you. Likewise, when you buy an implant, you won't receive the book from Gary after completing the mission from him.

Before talking to Wolfe, remove the cyborged ranger. Pick anyone else then talk to Wolfe, get the Book. Return cyborged ranger to party and use combat book.

Just to confirm; did this not work for me. Upon handing in the Synth Heads, the cyborg doctor in the commune refuses to speak to you.

I had no ‘cyborgs’ on the team, nor had I ever opened the CyDoc’s shop or purchased anything from him. I got the combat shooting book from Wolfie, but im guessing theyve patched acquiring both rewards. Unless someone knows a specific workaround.

It was my understanding that having simply purchased a cyborg kit (even if you dont use it) locks out Wolfies book.

I havent tried using a kit so there isnt one in the inv, and then dumping the ranger from the squad (like you normally do with Cordite) My feeling is that purchasing the kit is somehow registered by the game... but maybe not?

Hmm interesting. I will try this trick in the future then. I understand that this method you did and it worked? I want to be sure.

That's what I was worried about, if you buy the cyborg kit you'll piss off Gary. Well, I'll check in when the patch comes in and let know here in the future for confirmation.

If you buy the kit, Wolfe somehow knows and comments on it. Using it doesn't matter. Likewise the Commune knows everything you ever did concerning a Synth. Its meant to be a choice of one or the other. Also don't have cordite in the group when talking to Wolfe.

I can confirm this from a playthrough I did last week. Maybe in the past it was possible to cheese through by removing cyborged rangers and got patched to be the kit.
