No. Its fairly low rng running around on the world map. The amount of exp from world encounter is pretty insignificant compared to the total exp from just navigating the quest line and the game is very manageable even on SJ permadeath with 0 world encounters.

Just make sure you look for quests with lower level requirements if you struggle. But I definitely wouldn't recommend trying to farm levels like you might in other RPGs from world encounters.

I think there is also a cap between main story mission. Eventually, I would always just stop getting them.

When I went to kill Faran, my first move was the frozen rocket launcher and once it hit him the encounter ended and he surrended. No idea why. So I missed a lot of exp/loot.

As a general bit of info, there is a cap to the number of random encounters you'll get while out in the world (I don't have the exact number) until you visit another permanent exterior location. That is to say, if you're out there just looking for random encounters, you'll eventually hit a point where they stop showing up. To refresh them, head for a permanent location on the map and have the team exit before heading back out in the Kodiak.

As it was explained to me, the game randomly seeds the random encounters on the overworld map like a series of invisible land mines that you trip when you drive close to one. This means that if you drive around long enough and cover every square inch of the map, you can get to a point where you've done literally all of the random encounters. It re-seeds the map with random encounters every time it loads the overworld map, meaning the only way to get more randoms is to park in a location, like HQ or The Bizarre, etc, then leave and reload the overworld map, thus re-seeding randoms.

Also, all of the lootable bunkers are in specific locations and can only be interacted with once. They're not random and not refreshable in any way.

I don't know if this has changed at all with patches, but before the DLCs came out, it was seemingly true that you only ever got to interact with each overworld vendor once.

As far as I've experienced, you can refresh world vendor spawns the same way as you can the invisible random encounter points. I don't remember it not being the case even back in 1.0 but my vanilla playthroughs never had such an awkward setup that I felt the need to mass purchase some item from a specific vendor.

A great place to level is the spire location in Steeltown with endless robots. Grab an exp boost using Tarjan tokens beforehand for more exp.

Your party is generally capped to level 28 for a playthrough but you can use the spire to go beyond that.
