No controller/gamepad support?

I rented and eventually bought a copy of this game on console because I ended up enjoying it so much.

I can’t play console much anymore so I thought I’d get a new copy of the game on Steam and use the steam deck to play as I would on console - only to find out that only WASD/mouse controls work on the PC version.

Was a bit surprising as the developers have already done a fantastic job porting the games to console and getting the controls to work with a gamepad - so why wasn’t that support added to the PC version? It’s a shame I didn’t check first, I just assumed it would have been added once they’d finished the console ports.

It does have controller support. I just started the game and even without having a controller connected it said "press the a button to continue" or whatever

You may have to tell Steam that you want to use the controller even if the Steam Deck is a computer. There's a controller icon in the Steam library which you can use, otherwise the game may switch back to mouse and keyboard if you try to switch to controller in the game's own settings.
